WATSON who averages 37.4 as an opener in 6 innings is looking good.

WATSON pushes to mid wicket fluently takes the 1
WATSON drives TUFFEY over his head what a shot =D> =D> =D> for 4

AU 0/51 [12]
WATSON 22*

WATSON COVER DRIVES MAGNIFICENT SHOT 4 =D> =D>
WATSON cuts what a shot 4 more races to 30* =D> =D>
WATSON late cuts 4 more
AU 0/63 [13]
WATSON 34*
he now nearly gets to his average as an opener of 37-4

Amazing what can be done if you bat at 1 and not 7
HE CAN NOW IMPROVE ON HIS 30 AVERAGE.

In the one day format i would play Watson ahead of Clarke.

In the last five innings Clarke has produced scores of 7, 18, 9, 33, 0

It's over this period that the Aussies have really struggled, his form leading up to that was brilliant but so was Ponting, Gilchrist and Hayden. When exposed to the new ball the last five scores are what Clarke is providing. It is a clear weekness in his game, the same goes for his test form as well.

Where on the other hand Watson has proved his capabilites against the new ball and would offer more resistance if early wickets fell. Given time Watson would also manage to score runs going into bat at 2/120 game in, game out.

5 frontline bowlers and a long tail

With Watson at 7 the tail is already long. At least with a specialist bowler there Watson wouldn't be bowling.

Whether u agree or not watson is in and in to stay.

He can bat.

Against weak attacks and when there is little pressure ie. domestic cricket and dead rubbers yes he can bat. I do agree he is in to stay though. That fact just emphasises what a ridiculous game one day cricket really is.

I was having the same thought myself about watson at 4. I think hodge is our best 4 though. Cos we have taken hayden we virtually have to play him unless haddin plays. Why cant we consider gilly at 7 and open watson and hayden.

200 in a sheild final is pressure.

technique is good.

i think he is going to play a role in test cricket sooner rather than later. Big pressure on symonds for that posy in the test side especially given it was already watsons.
