The next 3 days the current squad need to just watch how players like AB would absorb time and balls. Make the bowlers earn the wicket not just throw it away like a $1 temu gift.

I think there is something in this. There has always been challenging wickets but there was also an element of patience associated with test cricket. Players valued their wicket and battled through. It was part of the contest. With batters now having the T20 mindset it’s become attack at all costs to the point of throwing away their wicket as opposed to occupying the crease for a lengthy period of time

However in the last 24 hrs when former English players, current English players and now even the curator have said the pitch was poor and not up to standard that tell you why @Booney is now no longer controlling what he wants to do today. And yeah as one of the major test playing nations we are currently copping our fair whack for preparing a sub standard pitch in the same way we’ve been guilty of criticising sub continent countries.

I don't know how bonus payments are structured and whether there even exists a 'match fee' these days, but the centrally-contracted players would all receive their usual base salary instalment.

Docking payments - which is generally off the table for employers of salaried employees, at least, in Australia (and ordinary jobs aren't really a great comparison) - opens up a can of worms and in any event the remuneration structures for professional cricketers (rightly) incentivise strong performances over the long term.

QUESTION
Is it a trend to produce 'result' pitches to earn enough wins/points to play off in Test Championships ?

Has definitely been a trend in recent years in the Shield comp to get results given the points structure.

I believe there was a conscious effort by Curators Australia wide about 10 - 12 years ago to leave more grass on the pitches with the theory that it actually helped spinners as well as pace bowlers. Not exactly convinced by that theory
