I know all the jokes of a bloke who hasn't made a first-class century batting at 3 at test level but i like alot about Bethell.

At 23 seems to have a good temperament, plays on the edge of aggressive without being stupid, nice well rounded technique front foot and back foot and has that bit of swagger confidence most super elite sportsmen seem to have.

Has an ODI 100 which suggests the step up in quality bowling is completely above his level, there is some hope there.

Definitely one to watch in the future but will take into account we have no Cummins, Hazelwood or spinner.

I agree, just very unusual to be selected without a FC ton.

I’m sure TDK can find some stats on how often this has happened at Test level.

It hasn't happened very often off the top of my head, I remember there was alot made of it by the media when Bethell debuted (especially by Wisden), I'll have to have a look.

Cam Green would normally catch those with his eyes closed. He needs a bit of a spell, make runs and take wickets in the Sheffield Shield and enjoy the game.

Yeah I was just going to write he made 148 opening for NSW v SA on November 6th 2011 and made his test debut on December 1st.
