Was just about to make a comment on this line from the fox sports article and wonder what it means

"It’s not the end of Haddin’s career and he hasn’t been dropped"

Hopefully you are right Jim and it isn't anything to do with that.

Surprised the selectors dropped Watson after Haddin pulled out. Didn't think they would've been comfortable making two changes to the side.

Both have had enough time and should have a line ruled through them now.

I am ecstatic that Watson has been dropped! Thank f**k for that.

Best of luck to Mitch Marsh now if he plays. Will be interesting to see how he performs, time will tell.

Bring on tomorrow, surely we will bounce back?!

What's strange is that you would think it highly unlikely Watto would get picked again this series, so what was the point of picking him in the squad if he basically had only one chance left?

I don't know but I've felt uneasy about this Ashes series ever since Harris retired. I thought that was a very surprising decision to announce just days out from the start of an Ashes series.

Harris retired because he injured his knee again and he knew it was so bad he probably wouldn't be able to come back from it. It was a spare of the moment thing and he thought (and many others) it was best he retire straight away. Opened up a spot in the squad so he was replaced as soon as possible.

If he didn't get injured then he wouldn't of retired so I didn't see it as a surprise.

I think the manner of his dismissals in both innings forced the selectors hand. The fact that he got out lbw with the same shot we've seen about 3p times in the past just made him playing way to juicy a prospect for the English bowlers who are good enough to keep putting the ball on the spot & know it's just a matter of time.

The more I think about the first test, the more I'm beginning to grow fonder of including a Siddle in the side.. Not because he's a one trick pony or lacks regular wicket taking deliveries, but because he's consistent and you know what you're going to get.

Need someone who is just going to continually bang it in on that good length and build some pressure without leaking too many runs - in the 1st test our bowlers were all over the shop.

Our bowlers didn't bowl all that great in the first test. I'd expect them to be more settled this time around. But our bowling is not what lost us the test.

I think our seam bowling in the 1st innings in particular was terrible. That and obviously the dropped catch set up the loss IMO.

And the bowling of Anderson and Broad which was first class. If they bowl badly i think we win, they seem to be the key to the series imo

I agree - we bowl tighter lines and hold our chances, there is no way that England hit 430 in the first innings - a lead which proved to be pretty well the difference.

RPO (1st Innings)
4.71 - Starc
4.44 - Johnson
4.50 - Warner
3.60 - Hazlewood
3.45 - Lyon

4.73 - Ali
3.52 - Broad
3.64 - Stokes
3.30 - Wood
2.28 -- Anderson

Agreed. In the first innings we failed to bowl consistent lines even at 3/30 odd we were all over the place. The 2nd Innings bowling was a lot better and we rolled them for under 300. We bowl well we win the test IMO. Our batting is good enough to hit a winning score and will get better as the series goes on as we havent played a lot of test cricket over the last 6+ months with the world cup.

We failed to make enough runs. Batters did not convert starts
1st innings
Warner 17
Smith 33
Clarke 38
Voges 31
Watson 30
Haddin 22.

One of these blokes makes a good 100 and another makes a half century, we win.

England had 4 blokes make 50 or over in the first innings. Australia had 1

Spot on. It was our batting that cost us the match. If they converted starts the Root drop would have been negated.
