maybe Watto should try something different regarding his bowling. like dropping back a yard or two to see if that reduces his tendency to injuries and ridicule on here.

While I've had a lot of fun at Watto's expense this summer I would really like to be proven wrong by him and for Watson to develop his bowling in particular to the point when he can take his place in the team as a bowling allrounder. The less effective our spin options are the more we need an allrounder in the side.

Watson does have ability but I really doubt whether we will ever get the chance to see it consistently at the top level. I never mind being proven wrong by a guy who goes on and performs for Australia..after all, that is what we want our top cricketers to do.

I tend to agree. I think a side needs one and preferably two options of guys who can bowl 8-15 overs in an innings, depending on the conditions and requirements. Only a side with truly great bowlers can continue to rely on four blokes all the time, such as having McGrath / Warne to take 60 pct of the wickets, or the Windies with their cavalcade of greats.
Lee is very good now, but he's not an all-time great.
If we are hoping that Lee and three others can do the job, with no real support from others who can chip in, we run the risk of driving him into the ground.

If Australia opts for a second allrounder it should not be Watson. His bowling is crap at best. As i have said before he should give it away and just bat.

dodger - I believe Lee may yet become an all time great. The mantle of spearhead of the attack seems to rest comfortably on his shoulders at the moment. He now appears to be thinking more about his bowling, the difference between his slower ball and his normal pace has reduced, he is no longer expected to bowl flat out for seven overs as a shock weapon. The Brett Lee story is only now being written.

Agree that Lee has had five outstanding Tests this summer, now that he's the main man. Keep going Brett, because you have the room to grow more. Clark has been superb too while Johnson is occasionally up and mostly down as he learns the ropes. But, we don't have much after that on the evidence of this summer, and there are 15 or so Tests more on the menu this year, plus one-dayers, which is a hell of a lot of bowling for Lee in both forms. I'm just concerned about his workload, unless Symonds can keep providing 10-12 overs to get one-fer, Clarke can sometimes do 7-8 overs for one-fer or our fourth bowler (Hogg, Tait, whoever) can be a factor with 3-fer every couple of innings. If we keep needing Lee and Clark to get seven wickets every innings, with Johnson 1-2 and the rest from who knows where, that's a disaster for the two main men.
