0- Number of times England lost a Test match out of the 177 instances where they took a 200-plus runs first-innings lead before their defeat at the Basin Reserve. The previous highest first-innings lead resulting in a loss for England was 177 runs against Australia in 1961 at Old Trafford.

226- First-innings lead conceded by New Zealand in this Test match, the highest they overcame to win a Test match. The previous biggest first-innings deficit overcame by New Zealand to win a Test match was 144 runs against Pakistan in 1994 in Christchurch.

6- Consecutive Test matches won by England before their 1-run defeat in Wellington. It is their joint-longest winning streak in Tests since their record eight successive wins in 2004. England also won six consecutive Test matches in 2010.

0- Test series lost by New Zealand at home since losing to South Africa in March 2017. New Zealand featured in 11 home series since, winning eight and drawing three. They won eight consecutive home series after the series defeat against South Africa, but their three previous series, all since 2022, ended with a score line of 1-1.

248- Runs by Joe Root in this Test match, the second-highest aggregate for an England batter in a losing cause. Herbert Sutcliffe scored 303 runs (176 and 127) against Australia during their 81-run defeat in Melbourne in 1925.

Interesting MOM award going to Kane Williamson, guess goes to show you have to be on the winning side, not taking anything away from his 2nd innings however Joe Root, 153* and 95 + 1/39 Vs Kanes 4 and 132

For me Joes the MOM

Root averages 248 this match
Williamson averages 66
I have to agree with Locky801, giving Williamson MOM has to be posted in his Best Jokes thread

Herculian effort by the veteran Neil Wagner
One of the greatest fast bowlers with an old ball Ive seen
Often finds a way to take wickets at a time when batsmen should be cashing in

Some may ridicule him and say he's a one trick "over the hill" pony but gee you cant doubt the effort the guy plays with and the passion he brings to the team. Hit back to have the last laugh after getting towelled up his previous 2 innings against England.
Great competitor that must be admired.

He got embarrassed by Brook this series but to come back like he did just shows the character of the man. He is just full of heart and got everything he could possibly could out of his career.

Also watching SA, how did Markram not come to Australia? Just criminal selection by SA.

Because he was terribly out of form, finished with 115 today though and Elgar made 71.
SA 8/314 at stumps.

They had no one in form though. Markram was still there most talented player especially with Peterson out just made no sense to me even with his struggles.

They dropped Verreynne who I thought was their best batter over here, they chop and change more than Pakistan lately.

 i switched over to the rugby at the end of innings
missed the Windies innings
Ball wasnt moving around that much in SA innings, although they did make it look like the windies of the 70s/80s had returned
