Enormous pressure on a debutant that doesn't even open for his state, Hughes is struggling for form and I would think that Finn would dismiss him cheaply, could see us easily being 3/2 again. I don't see Smith being of any great value to the Australian Test team just yet.
Watto is averaging well as an opener, don't fix what isn't broken, well that's my take on things, as for the bowling, there's no immediate solution.

Okay than you swap Khawaja around with Watto and Watto continues not to go on with it and prolong career with he could easily be burn out soon. Hughes needs to get picked as he brings something differnt to the team.

I disagree especially with respect to the three pacemen. Not a chance all three can play again - I know it was flat but they bowled horribly and deserve to be dropped - with the exception been Harris. Harris stays but either of Siddle or Bollinger need to go. I would probably not drop both because that will stir the team up a bit too much but who knows really. I'm glad I am not a selector.

I'm Making a call based on little information on how serious Katich's injury is, but I am thinking he will never play in the test side again!

Watson
Hughes
Ponting(He has to the end of the series regardless of what he makes or doesn't make and then off to the commentary box or something similar. When he leaves Khawaja moves into 3 and Ferg comes into the side)
Clarke
Hussey
Khawaja
Haddin
Smith( pick him and let him get spanked for the next 18 months but i believe he will develop quicket playing at this level)
Johnson
Harris
Siddle.

I wonder when Dutchy will be sending out the invitations to the party? He's probably making the 'Goodbye Kat' cake right now.

The Kat is gone which means Watto has to stay at the top of the order regardless of opinion. Punter picks himself and Clarke looked better this test, his back injury is a concern though but he should be fit if he was able to back up here over a 3 day break. Huss back in form by the look, always good news. And then what next?

Our bowling was the problem in the first test, then our batting and bowling in the second. We need to win 2 from 3 so we need 20 wickets in 2 test matches. So far we have taken 11 and 10. Take another batter in? Definitely not, although the English should probably just pick 11 batters.

Take another bowler in? This would give us 5 bowlers plus Watto. Sure Smith could come in and be counted as another batsmen but thats like calling a carport a garage. How good would Andrew McDonald be right now, pity he is out til the new year with a broken hand. I think we need a bowling allrounder, not a batting one like Watto and to a lesser extent North. So I've searched the country and found....Henriques and Smith, Christian and Obrien, Hopes and Swan, White, MJohnson and Mitch Marsh.
Team to be: Hughes, Watson, Ponting, Clare, Hussey, Hopes, Haddin, Doherty, Harris, Siddle, Hilfenhaus.

No left arm pace but so be it. Dropping Doherty would be ending his career like Krezja, Adelaide wasnt suited and Brisbane he bowled ok, last chance though. You could throw a blanket over that all rounder position and give it to a handful which wouldnt bother me, just as lon as Cricket Australia realise we need to take 20 wickets and not draw this series.

I would pick a side that would look like this:
Watson
Haddin
Ponting
Ferguson
Clarke
Hussey
Smith
Christian
Johnson
Harris
Bollinger

Ponting is in only just, Cam White could easily come in for him. I think we need a side that can cause opposition headaches. We have no one in the side that the opposition fear unlike recent years with Hayden and Gilchrist. Bit out of left field but id like to see that side running around

Part of me wonders if we wouldn't be better off losing the Perth test (part of me also hates me for considering it) as I can't see how we can recover the Ashes in this series anyway, so perhaps the sooner the urn is beyond reach, the sooner the selectors make some selections that might possibly reap reward the next time around?

Defeatist I know, but I think this series has to have shown the deficiencies we'll face in any serious against decent opposition until rectified.

I agree in that the aussies should start look at rebuilding now, give the kids who are going to be the future a taste of an ashes series - throw them in the deep end and see how they cope with it all

it has to happen at some stage and the longer it takes the longer it takes for aust to be the best in the world again

This will never happen but it what i would like to see

Marsh ( like the way he bats )
Haddin (as a batsman not a keeper)
Watto (best batsman at the moment and i have always thought the best should be at 3)
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Paine (as the keeper)
Smith (allrounders position, at least he can field)
Harris (best of our bowlers in this test)
Nannes (atleast hes dangerous, ask tim Paine)
Bollinger (was underdone in this test but still think he is one of our best bowlers
Were has Marbles gone and who is Satchel
