Hughes has withdrawn from the Big Bash to try to get better at test level.
Admire that he has admitted he has faults and instead of having a hit and giggle he is going to do the hard work in the nets. Hopefully he comes back a lot better player for it

Australian batsman are getting to Melbourne early for a batting boot camp. Players attending are Ponting, Clarke, hussey, Watson, Warner and Christian.
That too me says Khuwaja most likely will be dropped with Hughes for the boxing day test and Christian and Watson will replace them

Past results mean jack. Our attack is not bad but inexperienced and our batting blows. If Watson comes in as a batsman only it's good night the Fox.

Phil Hughes pulling out of the entire big bash to work on his technique for the longer format.

This attitude I take my hat off to. Hopefully things turn for him

x2. Well done hughesy :ymapplause:

I quite like T20 cricket but will always maintain that test cricket is the form you should strive to play at the highest level. Hopefully he comes back a stronger cricketer and fulfills the potential many knows he has.

Good work Hughes i think most would hope his performances change with an attitude like that.

As much as i hate Michael Clarke i think he has really led the way when it comes to putting test cricket as the highest priority compared to T20 especially when he retired from the format to concerntrate on his test career.

Surely Khawaja wont be dropped... he looks at home at test level - just hope he gets a big one soon, 20s and 30s wont cut it... A big ton & it will open the floodgates I reckon. Will be the backbone of our batting for the next 10 years.

Hughes out for Watson will be the only change for mine, unless Harris gets up.. then he comes in for Starc. Ponting & Hussey on notice though, they have boxing day to perform or it will be curtains - the only thing saving them currently is that there is no Lehmann, Hodge, Law, Cox scoring 1000+ runs a season in Shield cricket

I can't believe all of the conjecture to slot Harris in, as much as I rate him and think he is a great bowler, I'm not convinced that he can handle the vigours of test cricket. The big frame requires a lot of maintenance to keep out on the paddock, he's a fair liability nowadays, I'd pencil him in to concerntrate on the shorter form games to try and keep the Pattinson's, Cummins', Cutting's and Starc's at peak fitness for the longer version games.
We need to have long term goals and look at the bigger picture, we kill our bowlers too often.

Good mate of mine, his lad dropped him (caught & bowled when he was on 15). Went on to make 101....

I don't think uzzy looks at home at test level yet. In state cricket he is a stroke player. He has a a strike rate of over 60 in shield cricket and a SR of only 39 in tests. I think he is going in to his shell a bit. He may have to go back and find his mojo again

No, I'm pretty sure he's playing in the chairmans XI along with Cowan.

Haha! Saw that in the paper today. A good old North Haven boy, Nicks a gun at both footy and cricket but I reckon he should focus more on cricket. His dads a great bloke, helps out everywhere he can and obviously couldn't help himself by getting a few words into the article, typical Chris.

I agree.
I said during the South African series that this was the case, and followed on to say that he wouldn't be able to consistently produce at Test match level until he is getting regular matches...
When it comes to defining a players role, like they are shortly to do with Watson, if they said to Usman, "you are now our Test match opener," he can prepare for that.
Not three without Marsh, not in and out of the team, not four or five depending on who is in the team.
If he is given a certain role, then he can begin to grow, but if they muck him around, then he will struggle.

I reckon Khawaja stays in until Marsh proves his fitness. The problem he has had is in one test and then out the next. No wonder then that the shots aren't exactly flying off his bat. Give him a run of tests in the side.
