If it was all that easy Lee and McGrath wouldn't have over 600 test wickets between them. Tait's problem might be that he's not predictable (i.e. in test language that means consistent) enough.

REB - I ever said they wernt good bowlers, on the contary, McGrath is a great example to any bowlers at any level, line and length and the batsmen will eventually make a mistake.

Tait provides the X factor, that could go for plenty or have them 5 for SFA!

not sure if they will bring in McGill, it seems the selectors have already made the decision to play 1 spinner

if the play 5 specialist bowlers, it will be four pace bowlers + Warne

I personally think that if McGill doesn't play that much this summer, it will be because the selectors are trying to teach him a small lesson ie "fix up your discipline problems if you want to come back into the side".

Very unlikely to happen, but this Ashes series is like a Grand Final, you pick a team that will win you the game on the day. If Watson is not passed fit, that leaves the number 6 batting spot to one of Clarke, Symonds, Katich or .... what about Lehmann? If I was to have my house on any one of those players to perform for me next week at the Gabba against England, it would no doubt be Lehmann.

Yep, can't argue with that. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who would argue that Lehmann isn't in the top 6 batsmen in the country right now.

sydney_dog i agree that if 5 bowlers are played it will be 4 pacemen and 1 spinner. It shouldn't be though. MacGill should play. If Shane Warne wasn't born MacGill would be recognised as one of the greatest bowlers of all time.

McGill won't play that much this summer for the same reason that McGill doesn' play much every summer, Shane Warne. If ever there is a team you would want to play two leggies it is the Poms but McGill suffered an injury pre-season (on JB's fantastic 'Commando Camp' as did Kasprowicz if I'm not mistaken) and this will probably keep him out until the Sydney test.

regards,

REB

ps - Jacques for number six! :P

That is the best description of Stewie Mcgills test career, one of the best quotes of the year.

AND

Haddin may have been the best keeper/batsman in the Universe today but for Gilchrist?

MacGill is a fantastic bowler. We have been blessed to have two champion leg spinners in the same era when most countries around the world can't even produce one semi-decent spinner.
