SYD what people on this site and the NSW public need to evulaute
is CLARKs o/d form
I am his number 1 fan on the site as a TEST cricketer
As a o/d player the fast bowlers in order of bestness are
LEE
MCGRATH
BRACKEN

The next 3 are about even TAIT/JOHNSON/CLARK
They all cant go.

I think the sort tour of NZ and the World cup is also time for M Clarke to deliver, he bats well with a Ponting or senior player at the other end but needs to take the next step to lead as well

I heard from a pretty good source that Gilly will retire from ODI's after the world cup and tests after next years Aussie summer

If it was all decks on hand and we picked the best possible team 14/02/07
This would be my team [excluding ROY who is injured]

GIL'christ'
HAYDEN
PONTING
CLARKE
HUSSEY
LEHMANN
WATSON
WARNE
LEE
BRACKEN
MCGRATH

And I left out the premier domestic o/d batsman ELLIOTT

WARNE is still good enough to play surely
BOOF + HUSSEY at 5 and 6 are superb finishers of a game and
would be wonderful with my face value protracted tail.
I beleive blokes who bat 8-9-10 are bowlers who can score
about 10-2o runs at a run a ball.

Im not a watson fan.

However you guys need to consider two things:

The selectors have liked him a long time and rarely do they get it wrong.

Secondly he averages 50 at sheild level and scored a double ton in a big game a sheild final. I think he isnt suited to battin 7. Although he looked good there in the second final.

With Symonds out This is my team from the 14 available

Watson
Gilly
Pont
Clarke
Hodge
Hussey
Haddin
Hogg
Lee
Bracks
Mcgrath (thin ice)

Big call droppin hayden but i want a 7 who is suited to it. That is haddin he is the best stricker in the ranger cup. Watson must play so seeya hayden. THIS WONT HAPPEN BUT WOULD IF I SELECTED. Also if gillys tired haddin can keep.

With Roy

Watson
Gilly
Pont
Hodge (martyn like, backing him to have better series than clarke. class act, and it will be clarke or hodge when roy returns)
Symonds
Hussey
Haddin
Hogg
Lee
Brack
Mcgrath

loye is a hack and rightly not picked.

if england were to punt on flintoff with panesar and two quicks for frontline leaving collingwood 10 overs by himself theyd be handy with he bat with fred at 7

Still no Hoggard? Is he injured or don't they pick him in one-dayers? Surely would be very handy with the new white ball early on and then be able to complete his overs in the middle somewhere with keeper up to the stumps.

The Aussies have alot of work to do if they are to retain the World Cup. Not an ideal preparation with Lee under injury cloud, Gilchrist not there for first two games and Symonds hoping he will be right for the S.AF game. I know our first two games are only against Scotland and the Netherlands, but those games are a perfect way to find form and adapt to conditions and get some confidence within the group. It will be hard after those two games to drop at least two players and find room in the side for Symonds and Gilchrist who will be underdone in a pivitol contest. Some tough decisions should be made before tour departs.
