This bloke really likes the sri lankans. He has had a few harsh words for the Aussies today. He is pretty convinced that the catch of ponting today was caught. But from other camera angles, it does look a bit dodgy. Anyway what do people think about it. Catch or not?
My opinion is that it wasnt caught, looked to hit the ground.

I thought it was a catch but whether or not it was, it is actually physically impossible for a ball to be caught "in the fingers" when you are diving forward and your knuckles are facing the ground, the ball has to roll up to the palms somewhat, hence the "half volley" look.
Whatever the case, Ponting has made a rod for his own back regarding his taking the fieldsman on his word policy.

He tried that in England but the poms captain (vaughn) said no to it. So hes done what any other person would do, play the way everybody else is.

Was listening to ABC Radio at the time of this drop-catch, and O'Keefe was 100% certain it was not out. The other bloke commentating with him (Lawson I think) was not as sure, but agreed Ponting had to be given the benefit of the doubt.

of course the batsmen must get the benefit of the doubt. I didn't see it, but if it got referred to the 3rd umpire, then whether Greigy likes it or not, the 3rd umpire would have had to enforce the benefit of the doubt rule.

Yeah i was listening to the ABC too, and O'keefe mentioned that it landed a good 6 to 7 inches in front of the fielders hands...

6 - 7 inches is a long way to miss by when your catching, surely looking at the replys this would be obvious.

Obviously Tony Greig didn't think so.

He still probably thinks its a catch. He'll be calling for a suspension for ponting because he didnt walk, lol

KG interviewed Andrew Symonds tonight, Simmo stated that Sri Lankan coach, Tom Moody, after seeing the replay, sent word out to the Sri Lankans that infact the correct decision was made- Jaywardene approached Ponting between overs & apologised, to which Ponting replied "thanks mate, I appreciate that". It appears that everyone from a fresh newborn to someone recieving their last rites agrees it hit the turf 1st- except for Tony Greig. Perhaps Eddie can give Greiggy his "last rites" (or ask him last time he was right?).
