If we were not a joke before we are now

High performance manager Rod Marsh has put his foot in it big time revealing that the head coach Mark Sorell was not consulted on the recent recruitment of NSW batsman Daniel Christian.

DEAD SET FARCE SACA ADMINISTRATION

Now I haven't been this fired up since Saturday arvo after getting a 1st baller

I need a beer to calm down

sorrel = puppet

i believe that siddons was first choice as coach but wanted too much money, i'd rather pay bigger money & get results on the park

Was he consulted prior to the statement being made that Christian would be in the side for the next game? Sounds like they have a lot of faith in the coach they appointed.

I'm sorry since when in the history of Australian cricket has it been mandated to consult the coach on selections. Hells bells at the Australian level a review of Bob Simpsons role in 1994 recommended that the coach be removed from the selection panel so players feel more confident in discussing technical issues/weaknesses with him.

Its the recruitment of players mid season is a stab in the back of the coaching panel without consultation. Now it would be fair to say that the opinion of a coach would hold considerable weight at the selection table and on Dumb and Dumber Marsh was asked was the coach consulted in making this decision. He replied with a flat no with no further expansion on the reasons for the answer.

Today Sorell is barred from talking to the media preferring to "concentrate on the players"

It seems from here that its the upper management of the SACA pulling the strings of one Mark Sorell.

just goes to show where SA cricket is at the moment.......................The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing

Heater31 I think you are making Mt Everest out of Mt Lofty here. I know we all have lots of frustration with the SACA but take each issue on its own merits.

I'm with Tassie - in cricket the Coach is there to coach whatever squad he is presented with. So my honest reaction to this = so what? :D

Maybe I am missing something :?

Totally AGREE. Recruiting and Selection IS NOT the Coaches Job unless it is Stipulated in His Contract.

I say give Marsh more power, completely remove Sorell away from anything that doesn't involve coaching the 20-odd players in front of him. Let him concentrate on coaching. Marsh said on the news tonight that if the players performance doesn't improve then he will do more recruiting. Its about time someone at the SACA made some hard decisions, good on Marsh for taking some inititive. We are not talking about a nobody here. Marsh has forgotten more about cricket then anyone at the SACA has ever known.

You would at least have thought Sorrell would have been told of the potential to recruit this bloke,if only that alone.

I agree, but...how long has he been high performance coach with the SACA? I'm not bagging the bloke 'cos he's a legend of the game, but he's been involved for a while now. What has he achieved as HPC?

I agree with heater on this. How can the management at the SACA poach a player from interstate and name him in the one-day team without the coach even having any idea. Surely all should be in consultation and be pushing in the same direction including the coach. The problems with the Redbacks start off the field and until they get that all sorted the Redbacks will continue to be hopeless.

As I said previously the Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing......................

from today's article by Richard Earle pg 93 whilst it has a dig at Rod Marsh and the upper management of the SACA does state something that I agree with regarding the recruitment of interstaters. the SACA is sending scouts to the u/19 national carnival to look at possible recruitments of interstaters especially from NSW.

I have said on here before the ACT kids have nowhere to go and surely they have someone who could be of value to us instead of heading to Sydney and possibly going nowhere but Sydney Grade Cricket. Perhaps the SACA could set up finacial incentives for grade clubs to attract theys boys therefore making the local comp better. Dean Sayers has got onto a possible winner with the Darwin boys this season and look promising for the future at Woodville.

You would upset JMO with that proposal heater, disadvantaging locals and all...

But I think it should be looked at - obviously there's something missing in local cricket (like talent, perhaps).

People harp on about the standard of the grade comp. Here is an opportunity for players with a bigger disadvantage with talent. perhaps these new 19/20 year old recruits would have to play a minimum one season before being selected. A gentle tap on the shoulder if you move to Adelaide and perfom well over the next season bigger things may be in order.......

In our current position thiniking outside the square should apply

Did anyone here Rod Marshs' interview with KG & Cornesy on Tuesday night? One of the most bizarre interviews I have ever heard. Marsh was unconvincing and really put his foot in it. The majority of answers to the questions asked were one word. SA cricket is in dire straits at the moment.

Yes the players have to take some of the blame but the appointment of Adcock when you have guys of the calibre of Lehmann and Gillespie in your squad is simply mindboggling. If you have got Cosgrove & Lehmann coming into the side for the next match then in my opinion Adcock is the first obvious choice for omission.

And can someone please explain to me why Daniel Harris continues to get selected for Franger cup games? He is not a one day player and never will be. Take a risk and chuck Manou or Ryan Harris in to open.
