Still no Jaques, Hopes & Dorey out - Watson & Johnson in :

Ricky Ponting (captain)
Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain)
Nathan Bracken
Michael Clarke
Stuart Clark
Brad Hogg
Michael Hussey
Mitchell Johnson
Simon Katich
Brett Lee
Mick Lewis
Damien Martyn
Andrew Symonds
Shane Watson

Still no Gillespie. I can't believe the selectors have opted for the 31 year-old trundler Mick Lewis, instead of tried & proven Gillespie.

So that would be, enough batsman for a team, plus an extra all-rounder and two extra bowlers.

What happens if a batsman goes down? Injured? Fly someone over ? Play two allrounders ?

Gillespie should be in there rather than Lewis and/or Johnson.

"Should" meaning the selectors will have to eat their words and "go backwards" as they have said.

Hohns seems to have a bad attitude regarding Tait in my book, a different one than he held about him about 6 months ago. Despite him coming back from injury, I don't think it would have been a real big surprise given that he would have played in the Rest of the world one dayers had the injury not occured. Plus the fact that the lad is still only 22 years of age.
While I still think the jury is out regarding Katich, credit to him for his innings last night. I think the reason his strike rate is so much lower is not because he doesn't hit enough boundaries but because he isn't that good at working singles.
Jaques could consider himself extremely unlucky and while I admit I was pushing for Dorey early in the season, he didn't do any worse than Johnson did in New Zealand. Think Johnson has potential but even batsmen at ING level, batsmen don't seem to have too much trouble in hitting him around.

Mitchell Johnson
Simon Katich

Mick Lewis
Damien Martyn
Andrew Symonds

Players in bold are ones that i dont think have proven that they should be in the side. Bracken and Katich I can accept on the back of good recent performances (even if kat is f'n boring). However Johnson, martyn Clark, should not be in the side. as for Watson, I dont think he is the magical (ie flintoff) alrounder Australia is looking for.

How hayden Dizzy tait and espially Jaques are not in that side... i dunno.

Our bowlers are;
Lee
hogg
Lewis
Watson
Symonds
Johnson
Clark

The top two are excellent one day bowlers, able to take wickets etc.

The Last 5 are not exactly going to strike fear into the hearts of the South Africans.

While we might scrap past South Africa with that attack, the poms will destroy that attack.

Well too bad Jacques isnt the greatest fielder, because katich is magnificant in the field he will get that spot.

This side is an absolute joke. I hate to say it but I hope they get flogged in SA so that it might be a wake up call to the selectors

I love SA players but we have to forget about Gillespie.
He is too worried about his hair and business ventures to be driven to get back in the OZ team.
He had had his days, i would rather see OZ going for youth than tried and true Gillespie.
