Best Cricket Banners

Postby spell_check » Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:33 pm

In the book "Cricket's Hall of Shame", it tells of a banner used in Melbourne related to Shane Warne's appetite. It read: "Relax Shane - it's only xx minutes to lunch". The xx being the number of minutes to the lunch break; which were changed every 10 minutes. Then the sign was later replaced with "Relax Shane - it's only xx minutes till we remove this sign".

What are some other witty banners that come to mind?

The one at the MCG 20 odd years ago, a huge white sheet that simply said, "Bill Lawry's hankie"

"bracewell has no appeal"
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Channel 9 showed some highlights of Australia vs India at the 1992 World Cup during this years World Cup. In it was a banner with a balloon like person resembling David Boon, and next to it "David Balloon"

Not really a banner but the lads who put the beer cups in the wire fence holes on the hill at Adelaide Oval to spell Hookesy was great.

Struggling to recall the players names and the actual numbers, but I recall after Alan Lamb smashed Bruce Reid around the park for an unlikely English win, a banner appeared at the next game reading:

Reidy, you can contact Lamby on 466424 (or whatever the actual players and runs were).

Very amusing at the time.

I liked this one about the most hated cricketer in Australia since Jardine

Boring
Obnoxious
Yawnfull
Colourless
Onerous
Tiresome
Tedious

And during that summer when Australia played Australia A

I paid 35 bucks just to see Australia play with themselves.

regards,

REB

I'll claim that. Possibly one of my most inspired decisions.

The people at the Chappell bar weren't all that pleased when I stole several hundred cups to make the sign, but when I told then what I was doing they willingly donated to the cause.

Not to sure what to make of this one but I remember this slogan "briefly" being allowed to be displayed at Adelaide Oval against South Africa in the 90's.

Hey Hansie, we can Snell your Fanie from here..

After Hansie Cronje, Richard Snell and Fanie DeVilliers
