The greatest off spinner in the history of the game is about to be the record
highest wicket taker in history
Against EG Murali started the test on 704 wickets
5 wickets to beat Warnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnney
The score at the moment is EG 6/186
MURALI 21 overs 4/30
He needs one more wicket
The tension is mounting and and and it rains !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shane and Daryl relieved

WARNE 145 TESTS 708 WICKETS @25-41
MURALI 116 TESTS 708 WICKETS @21

WARNE 5 WICKETS 37 TIMES
MURALI 5 WICKETS 60 TIMES [61 SOON]

The wicket Murali will never forget is
KP LBW 31 of a grubber

707 was KP
708 BOPARA

forget for 1 moment that he chucks, how many 'test wickets' does murali have against zimbabwe & bangladesh ?

when you see the answer compare it to warnes against the same 2 countries

along BAYMANS thinking

compare how many wickets Murali has away from home and also consider the strength of the opposition at the time

WARNEY is the greatest spinner the world has and will ever see

Combined I think Murali has about 170 wickets against those 2 countries.

Just goes to show what Rod Rooster says
never ever take averages for gospel
They are are good guide but not entirely accurate
If Nathan Adcock bowled at the same teams on the same decks
he would also have 200 test wickets
The Kandyman must have an amazing record at Kandy as well
We saw how good he was in Australia

And Its still raining.

Shane and Daryl can savour these priceless minutes/hours

A bit like Ponting facing Gayle/Lawson/Colleymore/Edwards
And Greg Chappell facing Garner/Marshall/Holding/Roberts

No doubt about it BAYMAN
If Warnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnney bowled at Kandy as often
and against Zimbabwe/Bangladesh you could at least reverse the 25 to 21 averages.

Heaven help if Canada gets test status ....

Lets not forget that also Murali has had very little competition for wickets from his team mates. Warne had a bloke called McGrath who took 560 odd wickets at the other end plus others such as Gillespie, Lee, McDermott etc. all taking lots of wickets at the other end. Sri Lanka have basically just had Murali to take the wickets and no-one else so he had more chance of taking big bags.

And remembering Auusie grounds apart from Sydney and Adelaide are spin friendly (or traditionally). So Warne hasn't got that home advantage Murali has.

Before the start of this Test, he has 704 Test wickets - 699 for Sri Lanka and 5 for ICC World XI.

There has only been one other player to take more than 100 wickets for Sri Lanka - Chaminda Vaas, with 320.

Here is a list of the top 5 Sri Lankan wicket takers:

Muralitharan - 704
Vaas - 320
Jayasuriya - 97
Malinga - 85
G. Wickramasinghe - 85
Total - 587 (excluding Murali)

For Warne, these are the top 5 bowlers who had played entirely during his career:

Warne - 708
McGrath - 563
Gillespie - 259
Lee - 247
MacGill - 203
Total - 1272 (excluding Warne)

Very telling stats there spelly. Add in the wickets taken by others during Warne's time as well and it would paint an even more telling picture of the difference in the situation of the two spinners.

The Kandyman will break the record a second time.
When on 520 he passed the West Indian superstar Courtney Walsh.

Meanwhile Shane Warne announced that the Kandyman can get to 1000 wickets.
I guess if anyone can, the Kandyman can.

Irrespective of whether we all think he is a chucker, we should acknowledge the
little masters achievements, and one thing for sure it is compelling viewing everytime
the Kandyman is bowling.
There is that mystique everytime he and men like Warnnnnnnnnnnnnnney bowl.

COME IN SPINNER

With limited overs cricket more pronounced in this era and bowlers having less time off
its no coincidence who the leading 3 wicket takers off all time are
1 KANDYMAN [very soon number one]
2 WARNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEY
3 KUMBLE

All spinners

plus he always bowls more overs than anyone else continually, usually around 40 to 45 per innings :(

I'm sure spelly will correct me if i'm wrong but doing some quick calculations Murali (before the current test) averages 55.19 overs per Test match in comparison to Warne 46.79.

To provide balance to the conversation, this also helps Warne - pressure at the other end is a valuable tool in taking wickets. Warne was never alone in pressuring the batsman, Murali on the other hand is often alone.

I still think he's a dirty chucker though.
