Why Tait hasn't gone to South Africa

Since Tait's return from injury here are his returns in the ING Cup;

Tait 7 0 34 2 (5w)
Tait 4 0 23 1 (8w)
Tait 8.5 1 32 4 (2nb, 11w)
Tait 9 0 56 1 (1nb, 12w)

I am not a selector but the extras must have something to do with it.

He has never been considered for selection in odi side so why would he now after just coming back from injury?

Some of those wides missed everything and went to the boundry for 4, which means a total of 5 (4 for going to the rope and 1 for the wide).
The selectors are stupid, at least Tait is better than some of what is over there at the moment. 8 wkts @ under 20 should be saying something. Just look at MacGill averages 2 wkts a game in the ING comp and can't make the side.

He was in the squad for the aus vs world XI one day series but couldn't play due to injury.

Surely Dizzy has to get back in before Tait.

No, not neccessarily, espescially given that Tait is 22y.o. compared to Gillespie 30.
Must admit that I didn't think that Gillespie could come back the way he has maybe now someone will come out and admit he was playing injured through the Ashes, it didn't look like the same bowler and he was bowling an average of 10kph less with no movement in his deliveries.

It is still a helluva lot of freebies.
Unfortunately when ODI bowlers are selected there is more weighting on the economy rate than averages.

Quite true. They were gonna give him a go. It was at a point where Kasper and Dizzy were rooted and the newcomers hadnt really been tried yet.

I am of the view that the best four fast bowlers in this country when playing at their best are McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, and Tait. I think Gillespie may be on the way back. Next comes Bracken and Kasprowich id take Kasper in form ahead of Bracks. They will take four quicks on the test tour and Lee and Bracken are certaintys. If Mcgrath is available he is a certainty. That leaves one spot. I reckon it will go to Tait, Gillespie, Clarke or Kasper.

30 means nothing. Lehamnn got a recall at 32. Gillespie is the 5th highest wicket taker in Australian Test History the fact he is 30 means nothing. He will be picked if he is deemed to be in good enoughy from.

McGrath has taken over 200 test wickets since he turned 30 and Warne about 300.
Surely we could of found a couple of Johnny come latelys to place instead of McGrath and Warne :)

That's a fair enough point and I don't like to be agist but if you've seen some of my previous posts regarding Gillespie, his body even by fast bowlers standards isn't as good as you might think.
As far as any quotes that may come out in the media about "I'm in the best shape ever", well they're always going to say that no matter what.

Yeah but Dizzy can bowl. Haven't been that impressed with Tait from what I've seen so far. I know he bagged an s-load of wickets in the Moo Moo last year but he was all over the shop in England (as was Dizzy to be fair). Gillespie is the better choice at this time but the door of course should not be slammed in Tait's face...IF he is good enough.

REB

For the good of our Test team,in the long run, both of these guys should be going to South Africa.

With the uncertainty surrounding McGrath's future,we need the experience of Gillespie, and the raw energy that Tait provides.
Lee bowls down wind, but only for short spells.Bracken bowls into it,and for longer periods of time, thus,we need someone who can open into the wind, and then follow Lee down wind for a second spell in the session,Gillespie.
Tait needs to be exposed to conditions which test him,as England did last year, and our future is going to rely,IMHO,quite heavily on him.Of the other fast bowling stocks around the country, not many suit the express down wind style that Tait and Lee produce.Gillespie must go.

I think with Lee, Tait and often Dizzy being non-econimcal wicket-takers we should be looking at a replacement who perhaps doesn't take as many wickets, but can dry the scoring up .. Do we have anyone in the country that fits this mould?
