Hoggs last Test?

Postby Booney » Mon Jan 28, 2008 3:02 pm

I think most punters would agree,Hogg has shown he is not up to bowling at Test match level.

Clarke cleaned up the tail on a last day track in Sydney,Hogg doing nothing. Now day 5 with a stonewall at each end in adelaide and he has nil impact.

Thoughts?

Bye Bye :D

Honestly though, what were the selectors thinking, Hogg wasn't turning the ball an inch in his last test match, on comes Clarke and starts turning the ball 4 foot (not quite  ), think he has well and truly done his dash now unless he comes on abouty now and gets 5/1 in 3 overs which won't happen, quite simple, as a test bowler he is not up there, very good one day bowler, however also not great but does the job in the one day field, was worth the risk for the first test or two but the performance in Sydney really said it all and he should not have even come under consideration for this match

spot on Hondo, he does try his best but his best unfortunately is not good enough at this level, it is not his fault he got put in the side and has done the best he can.

I think as one, everyone put their telly on channel 9 and when they show the Aussies walking out on the ground after tea we charge our glasses to say goodbye to George Bradley HOGG :D

I also think this is his last Test Match. He is a decent spinner in One Dayers but he hasn't got the ability to take a match into his own hands. Hoggy tries his best every game and always plays the game in right spirits and is always happy but I think his time has gone and its time to move on from him. Bad luck Hoggy.

All the best George Bradley Hogg

Some wag in the members yesterday gave Brad Hogg a standing O when he went in to bat yesterday.

I figured if Gilly got one for his last test....
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

If theinjured obvious replacement does not make it back god help us in Pak and India .What do we do? Use Clarke and Roy more and play another batsman as insurance for the absent Gilly also allowing the 2 part timers to drop a spot in the order to compensate for the extra workload? I just cant see another spinner anywhwere near the mark at the moment.

I do feel a bit for Hogg having to bowl to the best players of spin in the world. I reckon you will find that Warnes Ave against the Indians may be pretty high. If he had the Poms or SAF to bowl to, things may have been different.

no, i disagree, Hogg was hardly getting any spin, and on come Symonds, a part-time spinner and he gets more spin and better figures. Now you can't tell me the great man Shane Warne would have had a high average, thats just crap.....

the main issue is, there is a lack of depth in the spin dept, IMO no point turning to McGill

There is a point in turning to MacGill. He is a world class bowler. One of the best leg spin bowlers we are likely to see. Take out Warne and he is right up there.

MacGill needs to get fit again, there is some doubt about his hand ever getting back to 100% but if he does he could be very important in the next Ashes series.

True, MacGill is better (alot better) than Hogg but IMO MacGill is gone, too old and doubt remains over fitness. It's a sad state when we have no one who can step in and at least take a couple of wickets. We won't have another Warne, so face up too it selectors and take the plunge.
Australia needs to take the plunge and find the best YOUNG spinner in the country and blood them.

yes i agree, and there is no doubting that, im comparing Hogg to MacGill because of the age. I wouldn't pick MacGill because i think thats taking a backwards step, we need to pick some fresh blood and young blood. Picking a 36-37 year old is a waste of time as far as i am concerned, why replace a 36 year old with a 36 year old. Personally its time for some fresh blood.
