I guess his bowling action doesn't allow him to remain 100% fit for long enough spells to get some consistency.

Wow, haven't heard that, guess a few things may be behind this move, look forward eagerly to hearing why, obviously wasn't injured as bowled very fast and well for SA a couple of days ago

Express paceman Shaun Tait will sit out of cricket indefinitely due to physical and emotional exhaustion, Cricket Australia revealed on Tuesday.

In a statement released by Cricket Australia, Tait said an absence from the game would 'hopefully give me a clear mind and a chance for my body to rest and recover'.

No time frame on a return to cricket has been placed on Tait, who will sit out Friday night's KFC Twenty20 clash against India in Melbourne and the upcoming Commonwealth Bank Series. He will also be unavailable from interstate duties for South Australia.

"This is a very difficult situation for me to be in at this time, this is not an overnight decision but something that I've been struggling with for sometime," Tait said.

"A break from professional cricket will hopefully give me a clear mind and a chance for my body to rest and recover."

"My love and enjoyment of the game is struggling due to these issues and if I continue to go on it will be unfair on my team-mates and support staff of both the Australian and South Australian cricket teams - and most importantly my family and close friends."

"The continued success of the Australian cricket team is important to me and I wish my team mates every success in the coming Twenty20 game and the Commonwealth Bank Series."

Tait had shoulder surgery following the 2005 Ashes series and also went under the knife to repair an elbow injury last year.

That, according to South Australian Cricket Association medical officer Terry Farquharson, led to Tait also suffering 'ongoing pain as well as suffering intermittent low back and hamstring injuries'.

"The combination of his injury history and the demands of being an elite professional cricketer has affected his physical, and significantly, his emotional well being," Farquharson said.

"Shaun feels he needs a rest from cricket and I support this, which will allow him to recover both physically and emotionally."

Cricket Australia's chief medical officer Dr Trefor James agreed, saying a break from all forms of cricket would do Tait good.

"We'll be working with Shaun going forward to ensure that whatever assistance he requires is provided to him. Shaun's personal welfare is our primary concern as well as his return to cricket at an appropriate point," he said.

Tait, who bowled with distinction earlier this summer in the Chappell-Hadlee Series against New Zealand, was left out of the XI for the fourth Test in Adelaide after going wicketless in the side's loss to India in Perth.

He played as recently as Sunday in Traralgon when he rocked Victoria's middle order, grabbing three wickets in South Australia's defeat to the Bushrangers in a Ford Ranger Cup match.

Sounds like he needs to get his head sorted out as much as anything. That late evening spell in the previous test was one of the saddest things Ive seen and must have had a big psychological impact on Taity and his game.

After hearing the full story on the media, it is apparent he needs a good rest away from the hustle and bustle, both for his physical and mental state. Wish him well in his recovery and hopefully we will see him back in a season or two blasting those batters out

Hope he comes back soon and not as mentally weak. What a joke. Played about 4 games since the World Cup but needs a rest. My heart bleeds for you.

This is extremely worrying news. I am an avid Tait fan and feel he has been handled pretty in his three tests for his country.

Will be missed enormously in both the ODI team and SA.

I just hope he gets himslef in the frame of body and mind required for him to show the rest of Australia and the world what a destructive force he can be.

His decision Has taken me by surprise as much as it has anyone although after having a chat to him during the Perth Test it was clear to me that the constant niggling injuries and the daily grind of training, playing and travelling was taking its toll on him both physically and mentally.
I can also suggest that he is not alone in the Aussie team that stuggles with this.
Having been close to the Aussie Team during the Perth Test (Staying at the same Hotel, Same Flight home and spending a few days at the Test in HOT conditions) i certainly came home with a greater appreciation of the constant scrutiny and pressure they are put under daily both on and off the field.

This is disappointing. Hopefully he comes back sooner rather than later. Him making an impact or even playing Test cricket again is looking a long way away. Especially with the likes of Hilfenhaus, Bollinger and Siddle emerging and with Johnson cementing his place this summer.

what a shame, a guy with so much talent, at the age of 24 has to give the game a break. If he doesn't love the game, i can't blame him, there is no point having him out there if he only trys 50%.

From a very close source i can say he has just lost the passion for it all.. Not pissed off at all, he just doesnt wanna play at the moment, even for Australia!!.. Body isnt great, elbow and hamstring issues.. Is a single country lad, but has been just traveling all the time now to big cities (mostly as 12th man) with an Aussie team full of older guys with families and young players with partners etc etc can get a bit lonely!.. he is just over it all at the minute!! this hasnt happened over night i can promise you, he has battled this for a while and doesnt think its fair to his team and teammates anymore.. Dead set champion guy, that would sooner tell the truth and get out than keep going and not give a toss and keep getting the pay cheque...Unlike some other redbacks!!

Just reeks of depression to me. Would be funny if he played back in the hills, imagine facing up to him in country cricket!

this is devisTAITing news hope he can get his head around this soon and be back taking wickets for aust or the redbacks asap...
