DJ HUSSEY what the ......rip off ?

David Hussey is in an amazing sequence of events
On Friday was the NSW V VIC p/cup game, both sides on 32 points and joint leaders
VIC bat and make 394
DJ makes 86 another good dig
NSW at stumps today at the end of day 2 are 4/210 in reply
With the game in the balance this happens :
HUSSEY will not finish the game
He has to catch a flight tonight to Adelaide to join the AUST o/d squad
Michael Clarke has a rib injury + Hussey is on standby to replace him
Rob Quinney is replacing Hussey in the Victorian team

WHAT THE .....

VIC would be ropeable losing DJ like this half way thru a p/cup game
WA played QL tonight in a o/d game
WATSON/RONCHI could have come to Adelaide before this game started
TA /SA players available
BAILEY could have played

Im thrilled my boy DJ is in the sqaud but what about the Vic p/cup team ?

The national team always takes priority over a state side. Similar to the situation where a District player is replaced when they're needed for a Pura Cup game.

Mal, settle down since when has a state team taken precedence over the national team.

There is a precedence I can recall an edition of Australian Cricket in 82-83 (I sound like Ritchie or Ian) when the Qld 12th man (John Maguire) was able to bat and bowl in a shield game after Carl Rackerman was called into a World Series Cup game.....

mal,

1, if you were the player where would you rather be ?

2, also as stated the NATIONAL TEAM COMES FIRST (as everyone should expect)

3, it seems to me that you've backed victoria & your talking through your pocket

4, if hussey isn't needed why couldn't he fly back & play the rest of the game ?

Aware of the rule
Does not alter the fact that Victoria has been ripped off.

The 4 points you have raised are mostly irrelevant to my post
My post is that the Victorian team has been ripped off
But I will answer them

1 I would rather be playing for Australia

2 thats the rule

3 no I didnt back Victoria

4 disagree with this point
Hussey batted for 86 on day one
Hussey fielded for several hours on day 2
Hussey catches a flight to Adelaide that night
Hussey has to wait till today to find out if he is playing for AU
The NSW game started already this morning
Hussey would fly back to Sydney later today if not playing for Australia
He would be a very tired boy.
He is David Hussey not Superman

Lets get this post into perspective
I am personally thrilled DJ might get a gig for Australia, I have repeatedly praised his batting all season
BUT

Victoria have been ripped off losing DJ in a game that may well decide
whether NSW or VIC play in a home final, that is an undeniable factor

Ridiculous post Mal.
Not ripped off.
Just unfortunate circumstances and I'm sure his team-mates would be happy for him.

but the selectors would look stupid & derelict in their duty if they didn't call him up just in case clarke didn't come up & if they didn't all of a sudden a redback gets a game just to make up the numbers, then it'd be 11 versus 10

According to ABC Radio R Quiney was a "full substitution" for DJ Hussey. If that's the case, then DJ can't play the rest of the match for Vic.
Agree's with Mal. RIP OFF.

Are any points awarded if two teams tie for first innings?

Nope 1 point each mal. 2 points is full first innings points, they shared the 2.

Blues and Vics into Pura Cup final
By Adrian Warren 20:35 AEST Sun Feb 17 2008Text size

Latest Cricket:
Blues, Bushrangers tie for points

Victoria created a little piece of domestic cricket history and NSW suffered an injury setback in a dramatic and season-defining day of Pura Cup competition at the SCG.

Both teams secured their places in the final after picking up one point each for a rare first innings tie, believed to be just the sixth in Australian domestic first-class cricket.

An eighth wicket stand of 90 between debutant Usman Khawaja (85), who was born in Pakistan, and Moises Henriques (47), who was born in Portugal 45 days earlier, carried the Blues to the brink of first innings points.

Needing 395, NSW were well placed at 7-391, but lost 3-3 in 12 balls.

While Victoria will on Monday regain the services of David Hussey, who was scheduled to fly back from Adelaide where he wasn't required for Australian duty, NSW will definitely be without paceman Doug Bollinger.

The country's leading wicket taker with 45, Bollinger will see a specialist on Monday about a foot injury.
