SOUTH Australia has offered a contract to star Pakistani batsman Younis Khan to play for the Redbacks next season.

Khan, a 58-Test veteran, is considering the offer to play for SA in the Australian domestic season until Christmas, and return should the Redbacks feature in the finals in March.

Redbacks duties would not impinge on his Pakistan commitments, SA coach Mark Sorell said today.

"Younis is currently one of the world's best batsmen. Recruiting him is an important step in our recruiting strategy and an opportunity that presents itself as too good to miss," Sorell said.

Khan, 30, has scored 15 centuries and averages more than 49 in Test cricket.

Yeah I had a laugh when I saw that. Even if he plays half a season, one bloke making runs isnt going to get you to the final.

What about Tanvir - has been bowling very well under Warnie's captaincy in the IPL, including 6/14 in one 4 over spell. I watched that spell and he was near unplayable.

Sheesh it can't hurt you cynical bastards. An experienced test man to show the jellybacks 'batsmen' what is required in order to build an innings. At the very least it should stop fatbastard from getting out the over before lunch all the time.

I'm more worried about the Blueboys. How are we supposed to win our 46th shield when all our blokes are wearing the baggy green ha ha. :D

REB

No problem with SACA signing Younis as he can't do any worse than our last OS player Andy Flower. Will give our batting line up a bit of toughness and hopefully will inspire a few of the local hacks to dig in and build an innings with him.

Younis will be good for SA - like REB said, even if he doesn't make a bucketload of runs, it will still be an excellent learning curve for the current SA 'batsmen' to see exactly what it takes to become a world class bat.

Does anyone know if he is actually close to signing or is it currently just a web of rumors, speculation and innuendo? Sorrell did seem pretty confident that he will sign though...
