On the newz this morning they said that Roy had been fined 3 Grand as he was late for training because he slept in and missed the bus. He still turned up and didn't miss any training at all so why the fine? It's a bit like you missing the bus to go to work but catching a cab but not missing any work? Some of these fines are way OTT for mine.

If it happened as it was reported, then Cricket Australia have over reacted. If this is the first time he's missed the bus then he should only be warned, and maybe a small fine if it happened again.

It sounds like they treat the players like they are on a school camp!

He has a fairly big prior with that one-dayer against Bangladesh a few years back. I would take this as a warning shot across the bow, whether for the reason that they think discipline is getting slack on the tour, whether that the test series is still up for grabs and can be tied (even if we can't lose trophy), whether the fact we aren't as strong as in the past and no corner cutting allowed. I don't think he would miss 3k with his current financial status, but this one seems more about a bit of public embarrassment and pulling someone into line. Not saying it's the right approach, but that's how it reads.

He's on a big enough packet plus endorsements, he should abide by the team rules like the rest of the squad, I'm sure it is written in their contract, no excuses. I wonder what MacGill copped for being late to a game.

Instead of fines for undisciplined acts - CA could remove one of the player's endorsements.

I think he was fined for being missing the team bus.

He's on a mill a year, so 3k is nothing. He'd carry that much around in loose change.

Andrew Symonds was late for the team bus but still made it to training

Andrew Symonds has become the second Australian to be fined for missing the team bus on the tour of the West Indies. Stuart MacGill was late on day two of the second Test while Symonds slept in and arrived ten minutes after the team left for training in Barbados.

The Australian reported Symonds was fined $3000 for what a team spokesman called a "minor disciplinary transgression". Symonds did not miss any part of the session after getting to the ground in a taxi.

MacGill was also fined by the team leadership group in what was his final Test before retirement. Both players claim all they did was sleep in.

In 2005 Symonds turned up drunk to Australia's ODI with Bangladesh in Cardiff and was lucky not to be sent home. Australia lost the game but Symonds kept his contract and was warned of the consequences of any more serious incidents.
