NIGHTWATCHMAN

Who was the last Australian Nightwatchman before Dizzy Gillespie today to get a hundred?

Who would the last Nightwatchman be to get a hundred at International Level?

I know a few will say "it was only Bangladesh" but hell when your a nightwatchman who wouldn't normally get an opportunity who cares a hundred is a hundred and no one can take this away from Dizzy.
Great work big fella, true heart and passion for the Country.

Tony Mann, spinner from WA, made 108 on debut against India in the World Series days.

GILLESPIE

Apparantly the sixth nightwatchman to get a ton.
Mark Boucher did it twice.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he's in there as a bowler, not a batsman.

Plenty of other batsman have failed to get one against them, Hayden included.

Well done Dizzy!!

First of all I'll say well done Dizzy, you made 100 the only way you know how ... slow but sure. However, I really dislike the idea of the night watchman. Even though Dizzy made 100, he had used up a lot of balls (over 300) that batsmen would have scored far more runs from. Rain looks like it is our enemy in this Test and we need to be making runs far quicker than we are.

ADELAIDE HAWK

Good point we need quicker runs
but at least we have batted them
out of the test and we are 1-0 up.

The Aussies are entitled to "play slow" this Test, after the gruelling schedule they've had.

We are not happy with Hussey's nearly a run a ball 93? If it wasn't for rain they would be batting again or be bowled out. If it stays fine over the next 2 days there is still a chance of a result.

At first, saying that it was bad having Dizzy in there because of the time he took sounds correct. Although I do beleive that Punter and Hussey detected this and scored quickly. And the result is a 3+ run rate (not shabby) with one guy holding up one end like a brick wall (could you ask for more?)

So I don't think it's a bad thing at all.

D

P.S. I don't really consider Mark Boucher a "night watchman".

Agree Boucher is too good to be a night watchman.
2 tons prove your points of view.
Officially in the record books he is.

Flintoff would be a clear first.

Kallis would be in the best 6 in the world for batsman recent form has let him down maybe playin with an injury still as well.

Pollock not taken wickets as he has done previously - still steady with the bat.

Dizzy probably a number 8 but probably no better than him @ 8

Is it worth throwing Brett Lee in the mix?

Well Bubbles my friend we will have to wait and see - cant wait to get to the first day @ Adelaide Oval then the second day and then the third day and then well you know the rest.

At the moment he is the best all rounder.
