New Zealand vs West Indies
First Test (Dunedin)
Stumps Day One
NEW ZEALAND 4/226
DR Flynn 95
JD Ryder 54*
CH Gayle 3/42 (20 overs)
NZ brought in debutant TG McIntosh to open the batting with How. He lasted nearly 2 and a half hours for 34, while How lasted just 21 minutes for his 10.
WI have two debutants, Queensland born Brendan Nash and Lionel Baker a fast bowler with the not so impressive First Class career of 11 matches for 18 wickets at 46.5

West Indies bowlers spent most of day one bowling to a 7-2 offside field, not a surprise they struggled to get wickets

What a poxy place to try and play cricket. No wonder the Kiwis are shite.
1.35pm Everyone still believes that we could get play in the near future, but it has got a little darker which is not particularly encouraging.
1.15pm Latest update is that there is going to be an inspection at 1.30pm so hopefully we will have good news for everyone then.
The spectators are starting to get a little frustrated now as well. One has just been quoted on radio as saying they may as well get going or send everyone home.
1.05pm So much for play at 1.10pm, I am now told that play might start within the hour. It is still pretty cold and damp, which is hardly ideal but at least there's not any rain at the moment.
12.40pm I am hearing that an early lunch is going to be taken, so and with any luck we might have play at 1.10pm. Fingers crossed everyone.
12.35pm No sign of play just yet I'm afraid. Daniel Vettori and Chris Gayle are walking around looking cold and frustrated. Further updates when I get them.
12.00pm There is so much machinery out there trying to dry the outfield it is quite extraordinary. Mark Benson and Amiesh Saheba have just said they will check again at 12.30pm with the former making the point that it is the players safety that is paramount.
"There are some very wet areas out there and the groundmen have just told me that if we didn't have the helicopter we probably would not have managed any play today, but as it is we hope to get out there fairly soon," says Mark Benson.
11.50am Right, the covers are off but it's the outfield that is causing problems right now. I'm hearing the start time is likely to be around 1pm, provided the rain stays away of course.
11.30am Well, it's still pretty damp out there and the start is delayed. More info when we get it.
11.10am Good morning everyone and thanks for joining us today for day three of New Zealand v West Indies. I'm Alan Curr and I'll be your host for the next two days.
After the washout yesterday everyone will be hoping for clear skies today, we've not quite got those but fingers crossed.
2.40pm And we are sorry to say that it's been called off. The heavy overnight rain left things pretty wet and today's showers were just too much for the outfield to cope with. The next three days will all start 30 minutes early to try to make up a little of the lost time, so join us at 11.30am (2230 GMT) when, weather permitting, we'll be back.
1.40pm More bad news. The covers are back in place as we have had more rain, the early sunshine has given way to low leaden clouds and it's an altogether depressing scene. No news regarding the inspection but if they go out anytime soon they should take flippers and an umbrella.
12.45pm Sorry, gloom and doom as we have just had another shower and that's put the whole cleaning-up operation back a while. The covers were quickly back in place and we are assured the inspection will still happen as planned at 2.00pm. More tea needed.
11.50am We're going to have an early lunch ...it's fine now but there's been an awful lot of rain and the mopping up will take some time. The umpires have decided that they are peckish and have called for the caterers to get moving. They will inspect in two hours (2.00pm / 0100 GMT) so we'll keep you updated. Meanwhile, time to stick the kettle on.
Day 2: 11.20am Good morning and welcome to the second day of the Test, an earlier start today to make up for the premature finish last night. We'll have a long first session, two and a half hours, so get the drinks in and settle down for a marathon ... well, we will if they get going. The bad news is that there has been a big downpour a short while back and the covers are on with the officials treading suspiciously round a very damp outfield. Despite that, there are hopes that we won't have to wait too long. More news when we have it.
If you're stuck for something to do in the coming weeks, check out the excellent Frost/Nixon film which I saw last night. Highly recommended. If it's sport, then Sambit Bal has written a good article on the return of cricket in India with the Chennai Test.
6.35 pm No surprises as it is announced play has been called off for the day. we start half an hour earlier tomorrow to make up for lost time, so play begins at 11.30am (2230GMT). Click here to read the bulletin of the day's play, and join us in the morning for the second day. Good evening.
regards,
REB

106 to Jerome Taylor of the West Indies!

Only the third West Indian to score a ton since Lara retired (Chanderpaul and Sarwan being the other two).

Did everyone see Daniel Flynn's dismissal?
Given not out after an LBW appeal from Chris Gayle, who challenged the appeal and after video referral they fired him for 95!
Haha!

I think it is a joke they are using it unless it is compulsory for everyone.

I might've missed this if it happened at FC level in Aus or England, but wouldn't it seem smarter to trial something like that at a lower level first.
Flynn could've got his first Test centch! He wouldn't be very happy.
