To all those on here and the media calling for Gayle's head during the first test, what do you think now?

Sensational batting providing great test cricket and richly deserving of his man of the series award.

But apart from that I thought his leadership was super impressive, there is no doubt he has his team playing for him and he gets 100% from his young team. Not much went right for them during this tour starting with his own personal issues.

His interviews after this series were very measured and respectful. Overall the WI have one of the best Captians in the world and a young exciting team, I look forward to seeing their progress over the coming years.

Captained ok at times
walking off in Adelaide with 30 balls to go was contentiuos
his use of his bowlers in the first dig in Perth was confusing
He was mauled by the marauding media [but many on safooty defended CG over the overzealous press] but shut them up by the series end
He almost won 2 test matches for his team

And threw away his wicket. What does it matter that if came in 70 balls, helped his side win the match did it? No. In fact didn't even get them over the follow-on target.

Wouldn't be critical of Gayles comments if I was you NFC.

At least he was also able to convert a start into a test hundred also.

See, your problem is that you assumed that I thought Watto's behaviour was acceptable. It wasn't and as a result he was fined.

Short memory Mal? Heard of Gilchrist?

Gayle is an entertainment package, and was good for the series. I was far more impressed by his ability to bat all day at Adelaide rather than his 100 in Perth, because I doubted his ability to bat for an entire day.

As for being a great captain, I don't think so. Use of bowlers was average, tactically inadequate. There were times when other players were telling him where to place fielders. There was a classic when a wicket fell and Bill Lawry was giving credit to Gayle for great field placement, then it was pointed out that Ramdin actually placed the fielder there.

I don't want to appear harsh. For what Gayle is, he's great for cricket. I like him. I just don't think he's a great captain.

As for the comments, ever heard of an expereinced player from one team putting some mental pressure on young inexperienced players from the opposition?

GAYLE opened the batting, his side 520 behind, and single handedly got WI back in the game
To do that against the new ball was a truly amazing knock

Correct. More amazing innings than Gilly's.

Not as amazing as G McGraths 50 though.
