Simply the best ratings

This thread is being devised from a question Pup asked me in the AU V PA first test thread
I had made a comment that right now at this point of time that WATTO is the 2nd best player in the team
PUP asked who was my best

I remember a primary school ritual
2 boys would be the designated captains in a school cricket game
A mob of kids would be there waiting to see what teams they would be in
The 2 skips would toss for 1st pick
Then they would pick from the pool of players in the mob having alternating picks

OK in the current team here is who I would choose in order based on recent form, age, potential etc

1 JOHNSON
2 WATTO
3 HADDIN
4 CLARK
5 KAT
these 5 pick themselves on recent form
6 BOLLINGER
7 HUSSEY
8 PONTING
9 NORTH
10 SIDDLE
11 HAURITZ

Good little thread MAL.

However from the Boxing Day test match eleven, i have some differences in the ratings.

1. Clarke
2. Johnson
3. Watson
4. Katich
5. Haddin
6. Siddle
7. Ponting
8. Bollinger
9. Hauritz
10. North
11. Hussey

As you all know, im a big fan of Hauritz. I think he is probably the most important player over the next 3-5 years in the Aussie side. If he can average 35 in that period, i think we will be going alrite as a cricket nation. The spinners place is very open, and is massive for our future and this is why i have him rated on importance, age, form and everything else that comes into it.

Watson unlucky not to be above Johnson, as i think Watson is extremely important to our side, and without Watson, maybe Johnson would not be as effective. Clarke, the best bat we have had over the last 4 years.

Hussey, North are last simply because i dont think they have the future that the rest of the side have. Same goes for ponting.

WATTO since his return to test cricketer as the opener and change bowler

716 runs
1402 balls
1750 minutes
90 x fours
1 x 6
average 65-1

89 overs
8 wickets
290 runs
average 36.25

Cannot estimate the importance of 3 of the much MALigned cricketers who I have rated top 3

JOHNSON
wicket taking extraorinare, never breaks down, dynamic batsman, a real wasim akram package
to have a left hand bowler who bowls at 140-150 and bat as splendid as he does is a rare talent

WATTO
opening batsman who averages 65 and bowls some steady meduim fast stuff
rare package
how many others can combine as the opener and allrounder in a team, almost a jaques kallis clone in recent times

HADDIN
wicketkeeper who can bat like the best
to average 40 odd batting at 7 is phenominal
any top order batter batting at 7 would be ecstatic to average about 40ish
on recent form almost gilCHRISTesque

When you dont have a team of bowling superstars as we had not so long ago, these double gifted players are a rare commodity

Can't find room in the current side for Michael Clarke? But you rate Stuart Clark?
