Did you hear about the time........?

The bizarre happenings between S.A. & Tassie in the T20 match last Tuesday has brought back memories of other batting collapses & funny on field incidents in cricket matches i have watched, played in or are just folklore.

In the early to mid 80's, I was scorer for Sturt district cticket club's B grade.
Sturt had made 162 (from memory) & TTGully were 6/161 & cruising to victory when all of a sudden they were 161 all out. Losing 4/0 is no big deal i suppose but to do it and lose by 1 run was astounding to a 13 year old!

One story i have heard at Morphies many times and still cack myself is told by club legend Geoff George.
Early 80's (again. The 80's were the best) MPCC v. Plympton at Plympton.
Very fast bowler named Herb Cochrane bowled a steepling bouncer which flies past batsman, through keeper's gloves, scones the keeper & flies over boundary behind him on the full. Umpire's call: 6 byes!!!

I am sure there are many a story out there in cricket land, so lets hear them and have a laugh =))

A game where I played against REB and Booney

Western Youth Centre
58
REB 1.....................out at 4/11
BOONEY 17.............out at 9/55 and top scorer

Woodville Districts
1/2
2/5
3/39
4/39
5/49
6/50........6/58 a tie with 4 wickets left
7/58
8/58
9/58
MAL 30 and out at 5/49 and top scorer
The number 11 batsman went to see the other game our club was involved it, didnt make it back in time
we forfiet his innings and officially declare at 9/58 ...@#%^()(*%$%^*()___(&##$%$%$#@@#$%^& !!!

As skipper I was devastated we were 4/49 when I got out
The disMissAL will really touch REB/BOONEY
MAL B PRIOR 30 [how can we forget ''''champ''']

Imagine how I felt when the scorers alerted me that our score was incorrect and we were officially all out for 56

We LOST by 2 runs

Just for the record
WYC 2/26 2nd dig in a rain affected game
BOONEY opened this time and made 19*[111646]
BOONEY also faced a wily very very very very very very old spinner in that dig
MAL 0/1[1]...000001
BOONEY was tonking well except when he faced me
REB made 0  in that 2nd dig

Those were the days the summer of 93

Remember a game I played for Enfield A Grade against Brighton many years ago, unfortunately havent got the scorecard to post but we won the boss and batted, all out for 20, think we were 7 for 9 at one stage, both openers got a golden duck (me being one), Brighton batted and declared at 6/170 half hour before stumps. We batted for 20 mins and at stumps were 7/12, both openers again got golden ducks (yes me again) . we recovered a tad on the 2nd Saturday and were bowled out for about 50

Renmark rattled Loxton a couple of times in two day and one day games in my last few seasons playing.
I can't remember the exact scores but we lost outright in one day once IIRC.
We were also bowled out for about 25 in a one day match.

I remember a two day game against Berri Colts were we knocked them over fairly easily. On the second day, we only had to get three wickets to win outright. The captain of the Berri Colts brought his boat to Loxton for the day and we were fishing on the river about 45 minutes after play had started. Was a very long day - that finished with a loud mouth wicketkeeper begging for water after eating three hot chilis at once.

Twenty20 the other week in the Riverland.
Monash 7/106
Waikerie were 5/106 with 7 balls to spare.
The following sequence of 0 W (run out) 0 0 W (run out) 0 and W (run out) to finish 8/106.

Match result: Tie.

Some of the guys around the IFCC could help out here but before I started playing there were stories from the oldies that they played a GF and scored 100 odd and in the same day had the opp 9 for 50 odd. It rained all of the following day and the team 9fa, were declared winners of the GF because they finished top.

That's a harsh example.
I've heard of GF's being won via default like that because of rain and heat rules. Just not cricket really

This is an old one but in 1963 Sandy Creek bowled border park out for 1 in the first innings of the game and i believe the 1 runs came from a drop catch in slips, fortunately they were a bit better in the second inngs and were dismissed for 38.

This happened in the early 90s vrs Port Districts
We bowled first
Port made almost 400 in a day
My bowling
First over at Gregory and Seary [thats their names from memory]
Had them both dropped after 4 balls and my bowling was
4 balls
2 dropped
0/2
Both lads made tons !
And my bowling figures
0/59 off 3 overs !
My last 14 balls went for 57 runs

DAY2
We batted
Just after tea
Seary bowled bouncer at me
I hooked
It went to sqaure leg for 4
The keeper and slip clapped and the keeper says to me
"" Well batted , your now in front.""
I went from 56 to 60 ....

I didn't play in that game. I was in the B's that year and was on the main ground. Your memory is playing tricks on you mally. I don't think I've EVER played against you.

Our club had a game in the late 90's that we call "losing the unloseable game".

Day 1
Opponents 27 (M.Reading 9/12)
Smithfield 1/156dec (M.Reading 117 not out)
Opponents 2/30 odd.

M.Reading had dropped down to a lower grade because he couldn't play day 2, he never bowled in the A's or B's.

Day 2
Opponents 170odd
Smithfield 26

Lost reverse outright, it was funny as when the lads returned to the club that night.

1990-91 Ashes, 2nd Test at the MCG. England leads by 46 on the 1st Innings, are 4/147 in the 2nd innings, leading by 193 with 6 wickets in hand.

Enter, Bruce Reid. The Poms lose 6/3, all out for 150, and the Aussies win by 9 wickets. Have never forgotten it, Reid was a great bowler.

Personally, I was playing for my school 1st XI against Salesian College on a flat hard batsman's paradise. It was hot, no sideways movement whatsover and Salesian were 0/45. I recall thinking we'd be out there all day and chasing 250+ the next Saturday .. and they lost 10 wickets for 10 runs, all out for 55. I've never seen worse batting in my life.
