after watching all of today, it was clear that johnson is not up to scratch right now...he might find something later on but is just a liability...

make do with him for the 2nd dig and then get bolly in...

2nd test bowling line up should be

hilf
sids
bolly
x
watto

thoughts?

Same attack, unless someone injures themselves, or unless Bolly REALLY knocks on the door (I'm talking 7 in an innings or suchlike), and doesn't just take an accurate two or three...

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Sure they are in the team to bowl, but with our batting a tiny bit frail at the moment (we'll see how they go tomorrow) we cannot carry 8,9,10 & 11 who basically can't bat, unless of course O'Keefe comes in for X?

nah, the batsmen are there to do a job, if they fail, they get dropped...as simple as that.

cant keep carried that spastic johnson with his flaming arm tat in this side...he needs to go unless he can drastically turn his form around....its not even just his form, his action is all fkd up and that may take years to fix...

bolly is exactly the right compliment to hilf and sids...

with those three you have a swinger in hilf, a bustler in sids and a left armer in bolly...the aussies have always craved a lefty...reid, matthews in recent times.

do chappellg, do it

Barring injury dougie wont get a look in except if they play 5 quicks at waca. Think siddle, hilfy, johnno and watson will remain for series. Okeefe for doherty might be an option.
Think they will persist with johnson. Yes he was average but so was hilfy and the conditions should have suited hilfy heaps.
Am i the only person who doesnt rate hilfy highly?
Thought he was very average today and if the ball isnt swinging he doesnt have a backup weapon.

Which is the only reason they persist with MJ...

That, and his record... ;)

Did Johnno deliver a ball seam up today? It's been a real problem for him recent times. That action is all over the shop, I'm with you Jimmy.
But, he'll probably come out and rip through 'em in teh second dig and confound us.

Whaddabout the forgotten man
Ryan Harris
I still maintain that Rhino and Rug are still the 2 most dangerous new ball bowlers AU have
Peter Siddle picks himself
Hilf is no longer a shoe in as well

JOHNSON
Everybody has an opinion why he is not firing
I can see a major difference to the MJ that was skittling batsman and the one that is a shadow now
His bowling pace
It was 145-150km about 12 months ago
Now its hovering at 135-140 of late
Perhaps he put in super efforts when he was at his best, and now he is worn out from too much cricket 12 months ago ?
Lets face it he bowled a hell of a lot of overs when he wuz at his peak, and perhaps his body was damaged ?
Dale Steyn was 150km bowler, now when I see him heez at 140km [but still bowling well]
I would not write off MJ as yet, but time is running out for him

LOL yeah, because Johnson's been in ripping form at international level with the bat over the past 12-15 months.

Didn't Hilfy get their captain out in the first over? WEren't the Poms on the back foot again in the first over of an Ashes series again? Hilfy is an opportunist and the slips would be alert every ball he bowls.

hilfy has upside, MJ looks to have let the media attention get to him and has really lost it...i liken it to a leggie losing his leg spinner after bowling too many wrong'uns (haha, i should know).

some major things with MJ's action is that his right arm is getting through too early and his hips are either going through too early or doing all the work for him, leaving his bowling arm all alone to come over the top, or in his case, almost side arm...its not good for a fast bowler to have all his momentum through the crease before his bowling arm is reaching the top.

To be honest, yes, he can still be a danger and is a top bowler but these things, if not corrected, can ruin a young bowler or any bowler. FFS, the bowling coaches or anyone who has played cricket need to address this issue now and fix his action. Get him up straighter, get that front arm and hips and momentum together with the bowling arm and then we might see some danger in this bowling.

at the moment, all that he has going for him is he is a left armer that can bowl accross the right hander and sometimes bring it back, but even that is a stretch as he just wants to bowl short all the time.

I know it might be hard to envision my comments on his action but just watch some footage and you'll see it needs some immediate attention.

True but a Johnson at HIS BEST is almost like having an all rounder in the side,

Like MAL said there is no surprise to see that when his bowling his quickest he takes more wickets, i think he is trying to hard to work on reverse swing and line and length,

Let him have the freedom to just steam in and bowl as quick as he can for short stints of 5 overs
while your Hilfenhaus, Siddle and Doherty bowl with the accuracy that they can.

Jimmy, If you ever get to see Mitchell Starc bowl, it highlights just how bad Mitchell Johnsons action is.
Starc has a great action for a lefty and Johnson could do worse than trying to replicate some of it.

Gotta stick with Johnson, he's a match winner with bat or ball and we just have to be patient. The Aussies selectors screwed him over when they rested him from so much cricket earlier in the year, it craps. He should be rested like Ponting and the like by leaving him out of the odd match rather than slabs of games, of course he's gonna go a bit stale.

Nup MJ for me and Dougie needs to loose some weight before he gets a look ahead of Starc IMO

i saw starc in the one dayer and liked him from the getgo....donk, dougy has lost some weight...either way, johnson is now under pressure and its all up to him, cant carry people in an ashes series.

Just said on Fox that NSW didn't pick dougie in their Ryobi cup one dayer yesterday even though he was available. Interesting move.
