Australia's young fast-bowling spearhead James Pattinson is out of the remainder of the Test series against India after scans revealed the early signs of stress fractures in the metatarsal bone of his left foot.
He has been replaced in the squad for the Perth Test by Mitchell Starc - the only change to the squad that was selected for Sydney. Ryan Harris is favoured to win a recall to the XI after making his own return to fitness.

Even though I am not a fan of Starc I think his height will get some extra bounce that will trouble the Indians.
I don't think they will bring in two new players so Lyon will retain his place in the team.
Hopefully India don't make any changes.

For India, you would expect at least two changes
OUT - Kholi, Ashwin
IN - R. Sharma (amazed it will be his debut FC ave 63- more in Brods Stats), Ohja (if they want a spinner) or Mithun (if they want a seamer)
Its a pity Aaron and Kumar are injured..they would be walk up starts to this bowling lineup

Kohli is no chance of playing in Perth. Rohit Sharma will come in for him. As handy as Ashwin has been with the bat it wouldn't surprise me to see them bring Ojha in for him as he is more capable of keeping it tight at his end and building some pressure.

Plus Ojha is a left arm orthadox bowler

Averages in India tend to be higher than elsewhere. 60 is not as good as it sounds.
But yes he will likely come in, unfortunately.

Rohit Sharma's FC average is only the 9th BEST IN THE HISTORY OF FIRST CLASS CRICKET...sounds okay to me

Either Shaun Marsh has some incriminating photos and is using them to keep getting picked or the selectors really dislike him and are taking some sort of perverse pleasure in watching him self destruct as a cricketer on such a big stage.
The guy is not a Test cricketer. Might be a useful ODI player and from what i've heard he's quite good at that hybrid game (the one that is preventing any First Class cricket being played through December and January). That does not mean he should get a game in the Baggy Green. His Dad presented him his cap when he debuted and told him he hoped he got more use out of it than he did. I doubt that will happen and hope to god for the sake of Australian cricket that it doesn't.

The problem against your case is who is banging down the door to come into the side
Most SS Runs 2011-12
581 Forrest
538 Klinger
502 Townsend
492 Rogers
475 Christian
472 Nevill
470 Cooper
469 Voges
453 Quiney
451 Davies
not too many test number threes in that lot (although i rate Liam Davies)

Watto? Bring him straight in. If Watto opens Cowan goes to 3 or leave Warner and Cowan together and bat Watto at 3

Not bad for a keeper. Best glovesman in the comp ATM, far superior to Wades glovework

That sucks about patto but explains his wayward 2nd innings. How long is the recovery time? Hope Harris plays and starc to get another go although I think he wouldn't get a look in if all our bowlers were fit. Would like to see uzi in for swampy and Haddin out replaced by anyone.
Preferred XI (with fit players)
Cowan
Warner
Khawaja
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Harris
Starc
Hilfenhaus
12th Lyon

Haddin will still play. I agree that Marsh needs some time back at First Class level. Probably hasent faced more than 2 overs in the middle over the 2 tests. Get Khawaja back in. Starc or Harris in for Pattinson.

Look, Haddin will play so stop arguing. With the Big Bash's timing no-one else is test match ready to play as a batter or as a keeper. Haddin will get the series, Marsh will get the series. This is why i think they rushed Marsh back in, because if they didnt, he wouldnt have played any test matches this series, and obviously they want him in the side and would have been stuck in the T20 limbo until SS comes back. The fact we won by an innings, they will not change much, unless injury forces an out.

They won't make changes (except one enforced with Pattinson) to the team on a winning run.
Pattinson out, Harris in.
Should be dropping Marsh as well, with Christian to come in and bat six.

Would still like them to play 4 quicks at the WACA.
At 2-0 up would be a great chance to go for the jugular and pound them into submission.
Harris in for Patto
Lyon to make way for another quick.
Starc might be an option, the WACA pitch would suit his superb short deliveries, would love to see us pepper and badge a few of their batters.
