Aussie squad for the first three ODIs will be named tomorrow, but will NOT include Brad Haddin

Brad Haddin, Australia's senior wicketkeeper and acting vice-captain, is set to be stood down from the first bracket of the triangular ODI series against India and Sri Lanka, affording the Victoria gloveman Matthew Wade another chance to press his case.

Australian squad announced for Commonwealth Bank Series

The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP) has today announced a 14-man squad for the first three games of the Commonwealth Bank Series.

The Commonwealth Bank Series is the tri-nations ODI tournament which will be contested by Australia, India and Sri Lanka.

The Australian squad is:

Michael Clarke (c) NSW 30
Dan Christian SA 28
Xavier Doherty TAS 29
Peter Forrest QLD 26
Ryan Harris QLD 32
David Hussey VIC 34
Mike Hussey WA 36
Brett Lee NSW 35
Mitchell Marsh WA 20
Clint McKay VIC 28
Ricky Ponting TAS 37
Mitchell Starc NSW 22
Matthew Wade VIC 24
David Warner NSW 25

Commenting on the squad, National Selector John Inverarity said the National Selection Panel (NSP) thought it provided a talented mix of experienced and proven performers with young players not yet experienced at international level.

“We want a flying start to the Commonwealth Bank Series against India and Sri Lanka and as always, have selected a group we are confident can win while also keeping an eye on development for the future,” he said.

“Peter Forrest, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade, Dan Christian and Clint McKay are in form and will have a chance to either prove or further prove themselves on the international stage.

“Brad Haddin has come off a heavy program of Test cricket – the workload for a wicketkeeper/batsman is rigourous and resting him for the start of the series will refresh him for coming international commitments while also giving us a chance to look at Matt Wade at this level.

“We have not at this stage named a vice-captain for the first three games with Brad resting and Shane Watson still unavailable while he completes his recovery from injury, and will assess that position when the squad assembles.

“Peter Forrest, in great form for Queensland and also for his KFC T20 Big Bash League side this summer, comes into the group but will remain available for the PM’s Xl game in Canberra this Friday, where he is vice-captain to Brad Haddin.

“Shaun Marsh is obviously disappointed with his own form in recent weeks and is out of the side but remains in our thinking for the future while he works at state level – as they say, class is permanent but form can be temporary.

“Brett Lee had a terrific Big Bash League and with Ryan Harris provides the squad with the experience at this level that will benefit the broader fast bowling group, while Xavier Doherty’s ability in this format speaks for itself.

“Mitch Marsh will be released from the squad for the first two ODIs to allow him to play in the BUPA Sheffield Shield match against Queensland as part of our planning for him to continue to benefit from long-form experience.”

The Australian squad will assemble in Melbourne on Friday ahead of the Commonwealth Bank Series launch game against India at the MCG on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the NSP has named Queensland leg spinner Cameron Boyce and Victoria’s Meyrick Buchanan to replace injured Nathan Lyon and Kurtis Patterson in the PM’s Xl squad for Friday.

I guess they take T20 form into account, I would've thought he was still in the best 14, at least he strikes at 100, I'm not a D.Hussey fan.
I wasn't big on McKay but seeing him bowl whatever he was bowling in the T20 has differed my opinion.

Ferguson extremely unlucky.
Peter Forrest 176 runs at 29 with one fifty
Callum ferguson 286 runs at 71 with with 1 century a d 2 fifties
Even Tom cooper could count himself unlucky. 255 runs at 85 with a hundred and a fifty.

Wonder where the selectors pulled Forrest from, having a good season in SS. And they can't say big bash form because Forrest only got 150 at 25 in that and coops got 100 at 35

That's what they are saying.

Australia's wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has said he feels like he has been dropped from the ODI side rather than rested. And Haddin believes that he could find it hard to force his way back into the one-day squad if his replacement Matthew Wade performs strongly in the first few games of the tri-series with India and Sri Lanka.

"We need to see how young Matty Wade goes at this level. It's seen as a good opportunity to play him and from my point of view, if he does well there's no guarantee you'll get your spot. Once you've given it up you give someone an opportunity and you might not play again ... If you give your spot up, you've got no right to walk straight back in."

They realised he's originally from NSW and you know what that means.

James Pattinson is confident he will be fit to play in the second half of the Commonwealth Bank Series. Pattinson is recovering from a foot injury that ruled him out of the final two Tests against India

I don't think it's a foot, looked more like 8 or 9 inches to me.

As well as Hilf:

Mitchell Marsh will join the ODI squad after the completion of the Sheffield Shield fixture between Queensland and Western Australia at the Gabba. Two of the other mooted contenders for Lee's spot, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Alister McDermott, are also taking part in the match.
