County Cricket 2016

Postby heater31 » Mon Apr 11, 2016 12:15 am

Well the new season kicked of this evening.....

Day 1 of the new season and there is already a delayed start in the Worcester v Kent with all of the first session gone and most of the second going as well.....what do you expect in April at Worcester's New Road ground when its built next to a ******* river and each year the playing surface is 4 foot under water

Interestingly with the new rules with the toss.....4 of the 5 games to get away on time were uncontested (The visitors get the option to bowl first) working wonders in the Hampshire v Warwickshire match with the home side in the shit at 103/7 after 42 overs although Gloucestershire contested the toss as the away side and won choosing to bat but have lost 5 wickets already against an Essex side containing Alistair Cook...

ECB tosses coins in major rule change

They only Aussie to feature yet is Cameron Bancroft out for 7 playing for Gloucestershire as Jackson Bird and Chris Rogers side's are either batting or fielding respectively.

Aussies all set for UK County season

That is an interesting rule change that should benefit better cricket, I would have thought. You may get some better spinners but also some genuine pace bowlers as well.

Mixed results for new rule in County opener

Mixed results for the skippers with Surrey and Sussex chasing leather all day and especially painful for Surrey as they conceded 446 in 92 overs then had to face 2 overs at the end of the day after bowling out Nottinghamshire. Sussex only took 2 wickets all day with Northamptonshire finishing on 2/296.

Chris Rogers' Somerset are in a spot of trouble losing 3 wickets late in the day including the nightwatchman. However, the skipper is not out along with an experienced County Cricketer in James Hildreth.

Still not convinced this concept is viable in First Class Cricket (well Shield and County) as Weather conditions can screw over the home side more especially in England.

Round 1 Complete with most matches have rain affected results

Rain, 'topography' prevent shot at history

Worcester v Kent didn't bowl a ball but I'm sure Bushwackers got a fair work out once the game was canned ;)

Jackson Bird the best performed of the Aussies with 4/56 in the first innings v Surrey and probably a huge morale boost for Nottinghamshire with star international James Taylor forced to retire immediately with a life threatening heart condition

Cosgrove bounces back with county ton

Rather unusual sight on Day 3 of this round of matches yesterday with most games at some point during the day delayed due to snow

I would've liked it if SA gave him the freedom to play his natural game and look to score freely, might've seen better results - instead he played the anchor role that Klinger vacated.

Pretty sure they wouldn't have told him how to bat. He just couldn't make a run and like most people lost confidence

He was making regular starts at a slower rate than usual.. he copped enough flak for that, how do you think he would've been perceived if he was attacking and got out cheaply, and exposed a relatively inexperienced top order?

I'm certain there was input to his style of batting this season.

Let's also put the bowling attack into some perspective Leicestershire are in Division 2, they have been a basket case for a few seasons notching up their first win for almost 3 seasons last year. They have Cossie in as a local their overseas is Clint McKay and coached by Andrew 'Ronald' McDonald.

I went and watched an Ashes warm up match in 2013 at Worcester who were a top division 2 team that year Watto clubbed a ton in a session against the regular bowlers

Mark Cosgrove's Leicestershire reduced to 7/34 this morning in their 2nd innings, despite a 45 run first innings lead. 2 run outs in that as well

Everyone's favourite Australian keeper Matthew Wade signs for Birmingham Bears (Warwickshire) as a replacement for Luke Ronchi who has been selected by New Zealand to tour Zimbabwe.

Yorkshire searching for a new First Team Coach......Dizzy to coach the Strikers only. Wouldn't mind betting he would put his hand up for the national gig when Lehmann gives it away.

Gillespie to leave Yorkshire at end of season

Season rapidly reaching a close.

Yorkshire still in the hunt for a hat trick of Division 1 titles. Jake Lehmann in the runs last round with a hundred.

In Div 2 Essex confirmed as champions and end their 6 year spell in the division.

Hoping Somerset win but relying on results to go their way.....not sure why Bairstow wasn't allowed to play for Yorkshire by Andrew Strauss and the ECB even though he isn't centrally contracted yet Finn was able on play for Middlesex. Hmmmmm....

typical ECB/MCC/Middlesex all in bed together, can't have the Yorkies winning 3 in a row or the cider drinkers getting one.

There was a little bit in the Sunday Mail about Mark Cosgrove in county cricket. Leicestershire have signed him to a contract extension until the end of 2019 and he just made 122* against Sussex his second consecutive century.
