We managed to f*** that theory last year.

524 runs to win lol.. about 70 overs to make them haha!!

It's only 7 RPO - in the age of T20 cricket maybe it's doable haha!

We did, but last year & this year even, I would think the safer play would be to put the balance of power in our bowlers hands. Relying on our batsman to just bat time hasn't been a strength of SA cricket in the last 15 years.

Agree that he's not deserving of a Test cap yet (Even if they have gifted out a few to others in recent times) but the duck in the 1st innings was the result of a SHITHOUSE LBW decision from a ball that spun about 2 feet out of the footmarks so pretty hard to be critical i would have thought.

Redbacks seemed barely to get out of 2nd gear after Christmas, yet still made the Shield Final. A reasonable year really and you would expect this group to take out a Shield title while Sayers is leading the attack. Carey the big improver this year. Maybe worth batting him a bit higher up the order?

Batting group was poor against the Duke balls. Individuals had moments after Christmas but didn't really nail too many games and opportunities given to them by our bowlers.

You think it was the Duke balls?
I always felt the blokes looking to take the game on was a bigger factor - guys like Weatherald, Head, Lehmann looking to score at a strike rate of 70-80 from ball one instead of batting time. Ferguson had a stinker after Christmas too.

We seemed to always bat better in the 2nd dig - no bonus points on offer then - coincidence?

Solution: Play the formats in blocks in relation to what our national side is doing. Splitting the Shield season up is crap, we end up picking the test team on the back of T20 form or no form and award ODI spots on Shield form or T20 form from 6 weeks prior, there were players representing our ODI team that I didn't even know what state they were from.

could they start the shield season earlier and play the ODI season after the big bash? probably not enough weeks to do that.

Its hard to see a way around it given the big bash aint moving any time soon. unless you play both leagues at the same time which isnt going to happen either

Considering Treager park is now a venue of choice for the Vics, could it be possible to start the season earlier as suggested and have the first two rounds played in the dry season of NT and North Queensland?

Not a bad idea, could be a good challenge for sides.

Vic are only using Traeger until the Junction Oval is upgraded aren't they?

Carey must bat higher. Has the opportunity to play at Australian Level, can't have him being wasted down at 7,stuck batting with tail most games. Must bat in top 6 and give him every chance to perform. Wade and Neville bat 5 and he's a better bat then Wade.

Could put aside an extra day incase a day is lost due to rain.

The issue is the BBL, smack bang in the middle, push it back to the arse end of January and we may have an answer.

All shield games played earlier so our test team is playing blokes with longer format form.
