Whilst i think you are correct, it cant have been easy for Ferguson to go back to SS and make runs with it sitting in the back of his mind - there was more pressure on him to perform than anyone else during that round of matches... He never got any sort of support treatment afforded to Maddison - might've been a different result if he was told he was safe for the next test, go back and spend time in the middle in the Shield game.

2 blokes who actually look as though they value their wicket. A forgotten commodity in the Australian test XI of recent times.

Let's settle and wait till they have some tougher tests. Marsh, burns and Voges looked like world beaters this time last summer. Although I like the look of Handscomb, looked real good in Adelaide against a quality attack.

My comment has nothing to do with the runs they are scoring.

Both apply themselves to dig in and score off of the bad ball, whilst respecting the good balls.

Both will endure rough patches throughout their careers, no doubt, but the right temperament is there, IMO.

Ferguson's dropping, IMO, is as much due to the fact he failed in the subsequent shield round bat-off, the one where Handscomb and Renshaw cashed in.

In both those innings he looked shot and horribly out of form (chasing balls, playing away from his body). Out of form technically and mentally.

45 more runs for Handscomb (gets to 151) and he'll have an average of 100 (assuming he gets out this innings). Red inks and it's in the bag already.

If selected he should have been given a better opportunity than one test where every Australian batsman failed and was a " freak" runout

The only thing worse than dropping Ferg would be to drop another one straight after. They had to draw the line. Tough luck for Ferg but Maddison got the flick anyway.

Ahhh timing and the value of playing in a winning team Maddinson got lucky, and I freely admit Ferguson was unlucky to an extent. Golden rule of elite sport, it aint fair!!!

2nd innings he had an opportunity to dig in a la Khawaja (and Smith and Warner to a lesser extent - those three made 140/161) but he got out mimicking a deer in the headlights playing a nothing leave.

Ferguson didn't have the most valuable currency of any batsmen when selections are being discussed at any one point in time - runs

All IMO.

Hosts 'Stumped' on the BBC as well, she's a decent presenter. A bit like Karen Tighe (dunno if I spelt that right) from the ABC, knows her stuff.
