Not sure where to put this but a Lancashire plodder Jordan Clark with a First Class bowling average over 36 has claimed a hat trick consisting of Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow. On day 1 of the County Championship match at Old Trafford.

Bairstow's wicket was woeful from a Test batsman.

I'm looking forward to seeing Sri Lanka play in South Africa next February on some filthy green tops. I'm tipping Mr Herath wil not get his 35th five wicket haul during that series.

You make a good point.

There is no doubt he has been given great assistance by the local Sri Lankan curators over the years - as has Murali and Ashwin to name a couple;

Herath
Home 48 tests 275 wkts @ 23.41 Outstanding
Away 44 tests 155 wkts @ 36.01 Modest

Murali
Home 73 tests 493 wkts @ 19.56 Ridiculous
Away 60 tests 307 wkts @ 27.79 Outstanding

Ashwin
Home 36 tests 225 wkts @ 22.79 Outstanding
Away 22 tests 91 wkts @ 31.67 Modest

Warne
Home 69 tests 319 wkts @ 26.39 Outstanding
Away 76 tests 389 wkts @ 24.61 Outstanding

A much anticipated series starts tonight as England host India, the first test is at Edgbaston. It will be England's 1000th test match.

England XI- Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root (c), Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.

Rashid picked in unusual circumstances after not wanting to play any red ball cricket for Yorkshire. Jos Buttler is named as the new Vice Captain.

Big series for Kohli after only scoring 134 runs in ten innings in India's 2014 tour of England.

That's a very good looking England side, I think they'll win and win well.

Cook very good on home soil and India do not have that 'Tear away' quick that Cook struggles with, I'm tipping a big series for Cook.

Cook's never made a ton at home in 15 tests against Australia. I find that stat amazing.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Has struggled for years against any form of decent pace. India certaintly lack pace.

My pick for leading run scorer of the series. Would be great adds too behind at least Root and Kohli and probably a couple more.

Does anyone know if you can punt on this?

England 9/285, stumps day one.
Root 80
Bairstow 70
Ashwin 4/60

Pretty good effort from India to restrict England. I would of liked to see England pile on the runs but good to see an even battle between bat and ball
