All over. England by 5 wickets in an absolute canter!
Too many stats, records to mention.
Unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.
Can't wait for the Kiwi analysis of where it went wrong.

136 to Bairstow off 92 balls

At one stage had 50 off 50

Last 86 runs scored by Bairstow made in 38 minutes, unreal batting
You cant change your past but you can sure hell shape you future

Not very often a team would score over 550 in 1st Innings and lose

The new positive cricket England are playing under Stokes and McCullum seems to be working :D

It seems to be working yes but i'm no expert but like a lot of other people I don't understand how Wagner can't get a game for the Kiwis. He just has that knack of taking wickets. Tim Southee had a very poor game too. I heard somewhere he was just the sixth player in history to have bowling figures that was wicketless and concede more than a 150 runs in an innings.

Apparently the most boundaries in a test match ever and the outfield was certainly lightning fast.

Yes, that was the most runs scored from boundaries in a test match, 1044.
The previous highest was 976 between Australia and India in Sydney in 2004.

Meanwhile its confirmed Kyle Jamieson has a stress reaction in his left lower back and will return home for R&R.

They are indeed playing with a new enterprising attacking style
This test match will go down as one of the greatest wins England has ever had

Not bad for a team mentioned by a senior poster on this site as the worst or one of the worst teams to tour Australia recently
They got thrashed in Australia coz the series was played here , more than most other factors
Any side that has Stokes, Root, Anderson, Broad[ and now Bairstow] is not the worst ever
If they can get the The Joff Archer and Mark Wood fit how good can they be
England have a BIG population and will no doubt re-generate even after the fast bowling duo of Stewy and Jimmy call it a day

They also appear to have a very good keeper batsman , but I will wait for wicket keeping guru analyst Ambays opinion on Foakes

It was a great Test match
On the matter of run chases SAFOOTY expert WHUFC recently said sumthing like that the modern players can now chase down totals in Test cricket more than ever b4
He was chastised by a senior poster on this site
I think this game more or less improves the hypothesis presented by bulldog WHUFC
I cant recall a 5th day smashathon in Test cricket like this match

Great match, great for cricket
Test cricket is alive , if they keep playing like these 2 teams did ...

I know England were terrible over here but I honestly think we can under estimate the impact of all the covid travel, isolations, no tour games etc. I don't think England would have ever won the series over here but the preparation was horrendous through no fault of their own.

The next series in England will be a much closer affair especially if England have a fit Mark Wood and maybe Archer.

The big story is the fall from grace for the kiwis. Have won 2 tests lost 5 test this championship and are sitting third to bottom.

There is a definitely a momentum shift happening in world cricket regarding fourth innings runs. Imo T20 cricket has seen an evolution of the game with batsmen now becoming 360 players......this transferable skill to test cricket has seen batsmen improve and revolutionise at a much quicker rate than bowlers in test cricket. We already spinners tweaking the bowl both ways, we already saw slower balls, we already saw accurate short pitching bowling before t20 was on the scene. The main 'skill' that has come into T20 cricket from bowlers has been slower ball bouncers and setting fields to genuinely bowl one side of the wicket. They haven't had anywhere near as a big an impact to test cricket as the development of batsmen have.....eg playing 360, confidence to go at 7,8,9 an over for a short period, 8,9,10 batsmen who are more than capable to hold up an end and defend a game if the top order fail, the list goes on. This has also been assisted by pitches that don't seem to break up anywhere near as much.

I disagree - England were pathetic technically, physically, mentally. We thrashed them because of the enormous difference in class between teams.

Agreed. If England continue to improve, the Ashes next year could be a ripper.

Combine all the factors presented by RB and the home team advantages = why Australia mauled England last tour

BUT

In test cricket over a great many years the home team is generally at a degree of advantage

This one readily comes to mind:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/ind ... -scorecard

It's all about how quick runs are scored when it's a good batting pitch. So often now do we see teams end up on say 2/250 at the end of day one, rather than get at least 300 with only that many wickets down.

Enjoying this refreshing attitude to test cricket by England. Compare that to this time last year when we shut up shop chasing a similar score and it's a good sign. Much harder times will come but Stokes is a much better skipper then Root. Also I think the lads are refreshed from no Covid bubbles, those lads spent more time then anyone in bubbles the last few years due to the amount of cricket they play compared to every other nation so don't underestimate that.
