True NZ champion of the game.

Absolutely, possibly the gutsiest shagger of all time.

Shaheen Afridi

A tad hard given the lack of cricket some nations have played and the quality that others have played against.

Good team, I think Karunaratne deserves to be recognised. Tom Latham is another opener that could be considered aswell as KL Rahul.

I'd probably go Williamson ahead of Labuschagne at three, just because he's been better for longer although it's it's extremely hard to go past Labuschagne at the moment. I expect Williamson to fill his boots against Bangladesh in their series starting soon.

Williamson as the captain in your team I'm assuming?

Who would you consider as an allrounder? I'd go with Ravi Jadeja at the moment.

Ashwin picks himself as the spinner, will be interesting to see if he can have a big impact against South Africa, that's if the Indian quicks don't roll them before he has a bowl.

Cummins picks himself and I like your selection of Southee. Afridi at just 21 already has a very good record and will only get better.

Other quicks to consider would be Bumrah, Jamieson, Starc, Anderson, Rabada and possibly Shami.

Currently the most test runs (7584 @44.87) for NZ (Williamson 312 behind him) and the second most test hundreds with 19 behind Williamson who has 24.
Also has the most ODI runs (8581 @48.20) and hundreds 21 for NZ.
Been an absolute rock for NZ at number 4 for 15 years, great longevity that you have to admire.

I thought this might be coming as he has struggled a bit for runs of late.

Yep, he's been solid for a long time, especially when others were failing around him.

That's the beauty of it, there is no right or wrong answer.

Afridi has a great return, 6 foot 6 and left armed got him in my side, the others you mentioned are all worthy too, Bumrah would be NIL.

Yeah, Kano wears the C, and with 6 solid batsmen, plus Pant, Ashwin and Cummins I didn't see a need for a specialist all-rounder to bat at 6, especially another spinner considering Root is in the team, if there was a half decent medium paced all rounder then I'd reassess my team make up.

I value your input and judgement being the young guru of the international test scene.

All out for 191, India win easy by 113 runs.
Elgar 77
Bavuma 35*
Bumrah 3/50
Shami 3/63

Did you see the highlights of him this Test? he looked disinterested at the crease.

I know how he feels, after 211 games I knew the moment I was done, was playing at North Haven, I couldn't wait to get out and pull the pin on my time in the game.

Very similar circumstances.

No doubt chasing the coin in the shorter forms.
I’m actually enjoying seeing South Africa implode and they are in a world of hurt for a long time.

I think he’ll end up in Australia playing Shield and T20’s similar to Johan Botha

If not cricket in SAF is in a real bad way, biggest test of the year, tiny crowd, team that is struggling. They seem to be going backwards at rapid knots.

Yeah, I wondered the same, and came across found an article, saying they have actually shut out crowds for the series, but some certain % of corporate suites or whatever can attend so the Board can meet their contractual obligations. Article and decision was only a few days out from the Test IIRC

That's good to hear, SAF in a mess is not good for test cricket..the way I read Test cricket globally is:

Aus- still going strong, if it wasn't for covid crowds would be as good as ever.
Ind- test cricket at an all time high, team is great and the public love the game.
Eng- team is doing shit but there still is support for test cricket Their board is definitely looking to make more money though from other avenues
NZ- going real well, all time high for this country, the game is growing each year.
Pak- test cricket being played in Pakistan can only be a good thing for them, now need a test team to perform on the pitch, sleeping giant as always.
WI- dead, dead dead
SL- poor team, poor crowds, on the cusp of going back to their dark days.
BANG- growing sport but now need the team to improve to take it to the next level.
ZIM- dead, dead, dead
IRE- has the potential but needs the ICC to get behind them and start getting them some decent test series.
AFG- sadly they only look to be going backwards after showing so much promise, much bigger issues their though.
