Absolute disgrace they were 12 overs short of a full days play, especially the price patrons pay to get in at Lords, watch them get no penalty for it. I dont want to hear the 17 wickets fell crap excuse.

Lets ban anybody else entering the oval outside of the drinks breaks for starters. If a set of gloves doesnt last for an hour, bad luck. Time for some serious penalties that really hits the hip pocket and in addition to that make them stay out there and complete the overs.

17 wickets in a day equates to almost 9 overs in time. Also allowance is given for DRS to be completed so they probably take up the remaining overs lost.

Seems spot on to me.

Lets face it if i had of said they did a fantastic job to only lose 12 overs considering 17 wickets fell you wouldve said the over rate was poor

No offence to you personally but!

Boll..... LICKS

Get through the overs FFS. 90 overs allows for wickets, retreiving balls from the grandstand, change of out of shape balls, change of gloves, DRS, drinks breaks, other inane reviews and the like. It's not 44 degrees over there, just get through the overs FFS and stop giving people a reason to turn away from test cricket.

I don't see it like that. It's not as if you don't expect any wickets to fall in a day.
Five days, 40 wickets, 8 a day, so anymore than 9 (given 2 minutes is part of an over), then fair enough to start taking it into account, so maybe 4 overs leeway could be given for 17 wickets.

Ever had a read of the ICC playing conditions for Test Cricket?

4 minutes per over is the allowance making it 15 overs per hour.

Sessions are 2 hours long with a 5 minute drinks break at the umpires discretion in consultation with the captains. Last over of the session must commence before the scheduled break time.

3 sessions of 2 hours equals 90 overs this doesn't take into account lost time for wickets taken (2 minute allowance) or waiting for DRS to conclude.

So the referees and umpires are effectively breaking the playing the conditions by giving any leeway at all.

4 minutes per over is only mentioned in the recalculation for lost time. At no point anywhere in the ICC playing conditions for test cricket does it mention 4 minutes per over under normal play.

6 hours for 90 overs, that's the expectation, and it includes all the 'expected delays' (a normal number of wickets, moving sight screens, fetching the ball from the boundary, three drinks breaks, etc).

There should be a penalty, a loss of WTC points being the biggest thing, we'll just have to wait until the end of the match to see what is done about the slow over rates.

But in the section of minimum over rates it states that the minimum over rate will be 15 overs per hour. Simple maths 60 divided by 15 is 4 minutes allowed.

Then says the following allowances to be used in the calculations. Which are not conducted until after the match is completed.

NZ 4/58
Conway gloves a half tracker down leg side
The wickets just keep on tumbling regardless whether it's good or bad bowling. I reckon i could toss up my pies and get a wicket or 2 the way this game is going.

NZ 4/236

Lead of 229

Great fighting spirit by the Kiwis to get up off the canvas several times already and have put themselves in a good position to press for the win.
New ball will be critical for the Poms 1st up to stay in the game. Chasing anything over 300 will be tough although it only takes one big partnership as these 2 have shown.
The Poms short pitched bowling tactics came undone and allowed Mitchell and Blundell to arrest control from them.
Poor captaincy

What is with the short pitched tactic? not bowling express enough, hoping for a batsman's error, my as well put 3 short covers and hope for an error that way
