To be fair he wasn’t the only one who thought our list looked average.

Our bowling was sensational, and our batting did more than enough

I’m just taking the piss with Carey as I know he will take it the way it’s intended

Perhaps some more credit should go to the coach.

The Strikers did it easy in the end! How good is Jake Weatherald, been good to watch him on the live streams of the Shield games and now seeing him put his skills on show in front of the big crowds should make people stand up and take notice, if they haven't already. Alex Carey in the same boat who has already been rewarded with national selection.

Is it just me or did anyone else on here not really care about the Strikers winning the BBL? It's great for the city that they won and was good to watch but in the end it just wasn't that relevant to me. I absolutely live and breath cricket and will always have it on the tv but the BBL just still feels cheap to me, they way the dress it up is cringeworthy. But if it introduces more people, especially kids that find the longer versions of the game boring I guess it's a good thing?

Feel 100% the same
The comp serves a purpose but who wins and loses means little to me

SA winning a SS game is more important then winning the BBL

I'm so old I can remember the last time we won the Shield. This is the next best thing.

We won the Ryobi Cup a few years back which is more meaningful and as a kid who could forget our McDonald Cup wins

Lots of effort goes into this tournament by all, coaches are judged, players are judged and in the end they are rewarded based on performance with national duties and sometimes the Indian BBL.
I see your points but the reality is this is very important to all involved as it can also set players up for life.
For that fact that they all take it so serious I believe it's fantastic and brilliant for SA cricket.
A SS would be the pinnacle, hopefully it breeds more confidence into an already growing confidant organisation.

Its hard to fully invest in a squad that has so few locals and in a game that can be dominated by players who don't have the mental toughness and courage to succeed at Test level.
But it provides tv viewing during low ratings season. And captures the 6yos interest. And there are always a couple of up and comers who get national attention... on this occasion Short Weatherald and Jye Richardson.
I see them as the equivalent of preseason cups in footy. Interesting to watch but results forgotten very quickly.

Agree I enjoyed watching them win and they played that format really well

Had they lost though no tears would have been she's, there were no pre game nerves etc

When Weatherald entered the field to open the batting amidst fireworks and fanfare with Tim Gossage by his side conducting an interview it reflected exactly what the BBL is, entertainment first, sport second.

Good for those who support them they won.

#MoneyBall

Think watching yesterday, particularly Siddle & Laughlin the biggest thing I got was it doesn't matter the format a good Yorker is the best ball you can bowl, and good areas are good areas. No need to be creative with slower ball bounces and 100 different variety of delivery - just keep it simple, set fields and bowl to plans.

Definitely seems like the way to go is to invest in top quality bowling, especially spinners, and hope your local batters can get the job done.

You only really need 3 or 4 batters too.

It probably would have been worth playing a specialist fielder instead of Lehmann

This for some of the imports, and in some instances add "the skill not to play at first class level" for some of the locals.

That's what the Renegades did with John Holland -
