2018/19 Australian Summer of cricket

Anyone know much about Marnus? Some people say he's an up and coming gun, others point to the fact he averaged in the 30s last shield season.

Second in the runs last season with an average of 39.75.

Had this discussion with someone on here a while ago about Labuschagne, comparing his last two years with Paterson as to who was next in line IIRC, and while I'm glad he's given a chance, ideally his numbers are just solid from which to launch a bumper year to put himself in the selection discussion. GUess that is an indication of the cricket landscape these days.

Also, still not sure why they don't think Burns isn't worth a long-term go in the middle order.

Good to see Renshaw back though, why they made him fight for his place when he so so much character in India I don't know.

SA bias obviously but If you are going on form from last year Nick Winter, chad sayers, Ferg all could be in this squad.
looking at form from england though Siddle has deserved his spot.
Finch's all round form has been good i think he can take that into red ball cricket, i would let him go like we did with warner when he was coming in we could be onto something. i think he needs to be up the order if thats the case though.
maxy is a tough call if travis gets a chance and takes it i think we are not going to see maxwell in test cricket again.
Nesser is a t20 specialist leave him there.

His best spot is opening the batting so it makes sense.

Agree re Alex Carey... he is going to be a ten year player. A class act. But Tim Paine IS a very good keeper; was before his horror finger injury and still is. And right at this moment, his calmness, maturity and diplomacy is just what is required whilst the ethos of the team is being remodeled.
And as to what era would he have been selected in? He was selected in 2010 when we were still a decent outfit, and was definitely up to the job.

I think Renshaw is an outstanding youngster.... not there yet, but will be in time. Due to lack of options, he seems destined to do his apprenticeship in the Test team rather than at Sheffield Shield level.

Not yet.
He looks to have the goods and was harshly treated when dropped but he’s not a genuine Tesf player yet.
I think he will be though in time.

Yeah, fair enough fellas. I suppose they thought having an experienced top order of Warner, Khawaja and Smith was the an ideal time to bring him in given there weren't too many other options and how Rogers and Warner batted pretty well together.

Steve Smith and David Warner are confirmed starters to play Premier Cricket in Sydney this weekend along with a host of current and former Australia players.

Smith has been named in a Sutherland side that will take on Mosman at Glenn McGrath Oval on Saturday, alongside Sydney Thunder captain Shane Watson, NSW Blues leg-spinner Dan Fallins and young gun Austin Waugh, son of Test great Steve.

Warner will play alongside uncapped Blues batsman Jason Sangha for Randwick-Petersham, who will face a St George side at Coogee Oval that will likely feature Australia quick Josh Hazlewood as he takes another step on his return from injury.

And for Penrith, speedster Patrick Cummins has been penciled alongside Brisbane Heat paceman Josh Lalor to take on Hawkesbury at Howell Oval.
