Why is it that tailenders for the most part tend to value their wicket moreso than the selected batsmen in the team??

Its not that the top six value their wicket less than the tail.
Its the fact the top 6 are expected to score so they take more risks and are facing fresh, good bowlers with a new ball.

You can't compare the pair.

Well its a Test Match so run rates aren't that crucial.
Id rather a top 6 batsmen only take the necessary risks.

On a different note, Shikhar Dahwan lives in Melbourne when there are no cricket commitments.

You shouldn’t need to take risks to score runs in the top order.

Geez how much cricket have you played?
It takes balls to cover drive an outswinger and or pull a quick bowler off your nose.
All attacking shots have an element of risk.

Carey > Paine with the bat, can play the batting all-rounder.

Fully concur.
Stoinis or Labuschagne based on what pitch is providing.
Carey will play once Smith is back; Paine is an excellent diplomat and a positive presence under trying times but will not be required once the dust settles and Smith returns.
The only bat outside this line up who might be an In is Warner and that's a tough one which I will leave to the powers that be (and would be an easier decision if Harris and Renshaw make the step up).

The other player should be KHAWAJA
My personal proviso being , he must open the batting, to get a few sighters before the spinners come into the attack
Like what happened against Pakistan

Confirmation
Khawaja has got the number 1 spot

Can't see any changes with MMarsh and Siddle the only two in the squad of 13 not playing.

Tremain not going to WA

As part of the sanction after Cape Town, Smith has a further two years to serve once he returns from his playing ban before he can be considered for a leadership role. Warner can never be considered for a leadership role again.

So who would be captain if Paine was dropped, Khawaja?

Barring a massive drop in form, Paine will be around for a while yet in the creams, defiantly the ASHES, IMO.

Is it time for Carey to give up the gloves for SA and bat 4? If Paine is going to be captain until smith can do it, its a long time to wait for him. He could easily make t gf e test team ad a batsman but he gets limited opportunities at no 7

One of the best players in World cricket that’s why. I don’t care if he is a flog. If he makes runs in the SS he has to get in

Interesting stat breakdown, India kept rotating the strike where we defended too much, could easily be the difference in a close game.
