Yeah I think as a nation we have over reacted with Warner & Smith.. I don't like Warner never have, and would be happy if he never played again, but fairs fair here they've done the (excessive) time for their crimes.. Look at all these other nations that ball tamper or cheat or are corrupt - no one even seems to bat an eyelid lol.

Sri Lanka just announced a 15 day thing for the players to come and talk to them about corruption.

Probably won't see any 12 months band though.

Same here, I am a bit double standardish though, I feel that Smith was genuinely remorseful and deserves a 2nd chance whereas I couldn't give a toss about Warner and would rather not see him again regardless of how talented he is.

I did see Smith as a bit of a sook in the 12 months leading up to his suspension, Punter, Tugga or AB would demonstrate their thoughts in an intimidating manner where Smith carried on like a spoilt brat, much like his partner in crime.

It's sad when these guys get more scrutiny, publicity and hatred from the Australian community for an act that frankly was **** all, while rapists, murders, kiddy fiddlers, criminals, scammers etc. all appear to do get it a lot lighter.

Our priorities in this country are all sorts of messed up.

The bans were far to harsh but they werent banned just for the ball tampering in my opinion. It was a culmination of the poor behavior of the aussies for the prior few years which made CA make a bigger stance to send a message. There constant messages talking about the line and they knew where it was was just utter nonsense. Problem was most of this aussie team actually seems quite quiet and introverted but they tried to make them aggressive like the old school aussie way which doesnt suit them other then Warner.

People keep saying they made a mistake and deserve a 2nd chance.
CHEATING isn’t a mistake....... there’s a big difference.

Although I agreed with their ban IF they do the right thing from here they deserve to come back in.

I'm glad that our country has taken a much stronger stance than others. The fact that Atherton, Faf (twice) etc. got away with it shouldn't be a factor in determining their sanctions. This sends a message that peoole wearing the baggy green are expected to play by the rules. If the Saffas are happy with their captain doing the same thing, then that's up to them (although hopefully the ICC will get tougher on this).

But I agree that, particularly with Smith, who AFAIK wasn't involved himself and was only punished for not doing more to stop it, the bans were a tad harsh. I think they should have at least been able to play in the second half of the Shield season, i.e. maybe suspended the last 3 months of the ban in regards to domestic cricket.

One thing I am sick to death of is hearing about how harsh the ban is on Bancroft, because he's just a kid, the new player in the team, etc. The reality is he's a 25 y.o. professional who should know better and should be able to make his own decisions. He is incredibly lucky he wasn't given at least as much as Smith.

It's not the punishment that annoys me, it's the constant carry on ever since - seems like every week some media outlet brings it up, and people want to get their torches and burn them at the stake.

I feel like yeah it happened, they've been punished, ok let's move on now.

Selectors to JL, "who do you think we should bring in, Mitch is a bit crook?" JL's reply , " ah look fellas i have Ashton Turners number here, ill see if hes doing anything Saturday"
Picking the Australian team is starting to be a lot like club cricket with JL at the helm. Get rid of him, he will take us backwards make no mistake about it.

Surprised he hasn’t picked Agar, Tye and Cartwright

Agree

I think there is a lot more to the bannings than we will know.

Personally I don’t believe this was the ball tampering issue.

Normally as a virgin you don’t go and have s&m and gangbangs which sandpapergate is the ball tampering equivalent
