This is like junk time runs. Khawaja just needs to stay out there for a while and get some time in the middle.

Still can't play spinners at all for FFS.

So Labuschagne Harris Burns S Marsh Renshaw and Handscomb will be fighting for the other two spots. Renshaw probably ranked 6th in that list but as yet none deserve a regular gig.
Will P cannot possibly be selected whilst he is struggling with expectations. He would clearly be even more vulnerable on an overseas jaunt.

Patterson is a lock for mine.

Absolutely.
Still annoys me that it has happened 2 and a bit years too late and not even be at least considered until now.
On the radio on Friday they were talking about Patterson when he was batting and they did mention how Maddinson was selected over Patterson in November 2016 and I got the impression they were trying their best not to blatantly say it was a bad call.

As for the guys Northerner mentioned, whether they're completely up to international standard or not at least we have plenty of options (12) around the squad and to choose from eventually. England don't appear to have the same amount of options with the stick.

My Bad... I didnt even list him and yes he is a better option than all the above listed six. So its Warner along with someone followed by Uzzie Smith Head and Patterson. So Renshaw Bancroft Harris or Burns vying for the final spot.

Surely burns gets first go. He just made 180. The team for the first ashes test would be;

Warner
Burns
Khawaja
Smith
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Does Warner walk straight back in?

I don’t think he should.

He's poison, always was and always will be. Fu*k him off to the hit and giggle garbage for eternity.

You don’t banish one of the worlds best test players forever. You bring him in with strict guidelines and let him know he is on his last chance

I like that line-up assuming Warner/Smith have sufficient FC match fitness.

Only thing I'd do would be to drop Starc.

I also think Head is more of a number 6 and Patterson a number 5.

Drop Starc for Richardson? On wkts that offer no movement Jhye struggles. There are many Test batsmen who would hope to not see Starc play. He will play and will have his moments.

But on Wickets that do offer a bit, Starc wastes the new ball costing us top order wickets.

This Australian summer
Most of the Indian cricketers had beards ?
Most or all of the Sri Lankan cricketers have beards

Are there any SL players who are clean shaven in this test match ?

Bird or Sayers would probably be my pick - get back to me after the Shield has finished!!

Do the bannings finish before the shield season ends? Do they have to perform at shied level to earn a recall?

My team and what I think is the mostly likely 1st Ashes test line up:

Harris
Burns
Khawaja
Smith (Assuming he can find some 4 day runs)
Head
Patterson
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood

Richardson - 12th.

I reckon that's what we will go with. The next few shield matches will be very important when using the dukes. For mine Patterson should play as he has the first class runs up, Labuschagne is the one for mine that would miss out for Smith. We really need Smith back but he needs to get some longer form runs soon.
