James Sutherland steps down as CEO of CA

Postby Gozu » Wed Jun 06, 2018 12:15 pm

James Sutherland just had a press conference announcing he is stepping down as CEO of Cricket Australia.

Bit of everything I suspect, his son is a promising quick for Victoria and could be considered for national selection. Ball tampering and the player pay dispute were major issues in the past 18 months.

Yeah but you'd think he'd want to stay and steer the ship so to speak with everything else going on.
Change is good but all at once?

I guess we are about to find out.

He's been the CEO for 17 years, that's a pretty remarkable effort and you'd imagine the recent happenings ( none of his doing ) would have made him a very tired man.

I think an argument can be made that the cultural decline of the team is partly his fault.

Craddock and Whateley were talking about it recently. apparently they made Warner VC because they knew he was a loose cannon and they thought they could control him by doing that.

hardly a glowing endorsement for his leadership skills.

I'm sure the timing of the announcement has nothing to do with SOO being on in Melbourne tonight....

Nothing kills a story in Melbourne like a major announcement from the AFL or Cricket Australia. I remember lobbing into Melb in 1999 when the Socceroos were due to play Man Utd that night at the G . Not that you knew from the news reports that night. The first three main news stories and the lead sport report was all about the current back to back Premiership coach announcing he was stepping down from the Crows.

My facebook feed is already full of a whinge from a RL leaning journo in Darwin bemoaning why they couldn't have announced this yesterday or tomorrow
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I'd be thinking more than that, I'll let you know the gut feel after my interview.

I'd guess he's around the $2m mark.

Cricket Australia's FY16 financial filings is definitely worth a casual look-over. It turns out the key management personnel (the chairman, current directors and "the executives with the authority for the strategic direction and management of the Company") took home $5.6 million in fiscal 2016. On that last definition, it could be Sutherland and his CFO, or it could be 25 managers. Piss-poor disclosure by anyone's standards.

But crucially, as recently as the last home Ashes, CA directors received zero remuneration. All but the chairman were volunteers. That could have changed without disclosure but, has it not, Peever, Sutherland and an unidentified number of executives "with the authority" etc, are making off with hatfuls.
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!
