England are in one day mode and looking very comfortable at the moment. A wicket changes everything.

Our seamers have been poor today. They just need to hang in there, keep it tight, bowl a consistent line and take that one chance.

This is test cricket at its best, nothing like the ashes intensity with a great crowd. Games evenly balanced, one wicket and the aussies are still on top whilst stokes and bairstow need to get us as close as possible. Who needs sleep for work

Yes a very good call to get him in ahead of Buttler.

But Patterson and (unusually) Hazlewood served it up on a platter to him.
Sadly Patterson is a step down from Starc in terms of being just as erratic but less quota of top shelf deliveries.

Genuine question, why is pattinson seen as better then starc? Starc did have a poor period in tests last year but hes still a terrific bowler. Its almost like pattinson has become more rated because we haven't actually seen him for ages. Siddle for me has been better then patto.

Difference here is that England didnt have to rush or do anything rash to try and win the game.

They could come out and bat as slow as they liked as they basically had 3 days.

Sure the pitch has changed however you still have to play the lines.

Of note in our 2nd innings we batted for 75 overs, in this innings Root, Denley and Stokes between them have faced 76 overs.

Unless things change dramatically after lunch i cant see us hanging onto the Ashes as a loss from the position we were in will take its mental toll on the group

It would be a big test of resilience, for sure - but one the Australian sides of old could recover from. Up to senior players and the coaching staff to keep things positive.

Who gets MOM?
Obviously Stokes if England win
Labaushagne with 74 and 80 or my pick Warner for his 70 and 6 of the best catches you will see?
