If the bowlers do their job, we don’t get to see how they bat.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

Labusachagne

Paine
Patterson
Pattinson
Siddle
Smith
Starc
Wade
Warner

Missing out: Bird, Burns, Carey, Handscomb, Holland, Neser, Pucovski, Tremain

That said, I wouldn't put it past them including the likes of Carey and or Pucovski for experience.

So as expected with the exception of Neser in for Kurtis. Probably understandable to play the extra bowler not bat.

Bird is much more talented, accurate, dangerous, experienced, and able to get lateral movement than Neser.
Also Bird is superior in every way I couldn't think of above.

It appears Neser's ability with the bat helped him edge out Bird for a spot.

Bird got selected over someone I think Sayers for his batting ability a few years back.
Dave Warner will be missed!

Bird seems to be in the group of cricketers that the Australian selectors look past when it come to test selection.

mitchell marsh???? wtf are they thinking ffs

carey misses out in favour of wade, what a ******* joke
Marsh performs with the ball in the internal trail and the love affair continues!
How does old mate Daisy take Neser being in the squad?!

Carey, Bird, Holland, Patterson and Burns miss out.

Im still in shock, how many quicks do you need in one squad, to me the selectors couldn't do what they are paid to do and that's select a squad. I think they felt compelled to pick anyone that performed in the trial because they pumped it up so much as carrying weight, hence Marsh and Neser in. I would put my house on it that Carey and Holland were in the squad before the game, replaced by Marsh and Neser, Doesn't matter anyway Neser will be the 17th one picked.

I still cant believe that if Paine gets injured Wade will be our keeper, that is a horrible selection. Carey in Neser out would be my change.
Hopefully someone signs Carey and hes not too far away if Paine is injured

I can't find when that was, maybe 2016 against South Africa? But yeah it was definitely the excuse given as to why Sayers missed out.

Yeah shit, that is worrying. IF something happens to Paine surely Carey gets drafted into the squad? Wade should only be picked as a specialist batsman.

Just watching the Trevor Hohns press conference about the squad selection where the question was asked about Patterson and Hohns answer was it was a judgement call where you have guys such as Travis Head averaging 50 in test cricket and Marnus Labuschage gives them the option if his batting and his leg spin bowling so they thought it was very important to include him.

Similar answer was given as to why Joe Burns missed out, it was a judgement call on how he was playing at the time. They're also very confident with the performance of Marcus Harris so he got the nod over Burns.

If Anderson, Broad, Woakes, Archer and Stokes all play in the same side, we lose the Ashes.
Our batsmen won’t get through that.

It seems i might be in the minority on this forum who think the squad looks fine. Bird the unluckiest but he is behind 4 other quicks anyways. Nessers form with the Duke is very good but he is the unlikeliest in the squad to get a game... as would have been the case if Bird was named.
