England vs New Zealand is slotted as the tournament opener on October 5 and India vs Australia as the hosts' opening game.
Ahmedabad, which boasts of a stadium that seats over 100,000, is set to host the blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash on October 15 in the ODI World Cup later this year. England and New Zealand, the teams that contested the thrilling tied final in 2019, are set to meet in the tournament-opener on October 5, while India are set to open their campaign against Australia in Chennai three days later. These are some of the marquee contests in the initial draft schedule of the 2023 ODI World Cup, prepared by the BCCI.
The BCCI shared the draft schedule with the ICC, which then sent it to the participating countries for feedback before a final schedule is put out early next week.
On May 27, Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, had said the schedule would be out during the World Test Championship final. He did not provide the reason behind the delay, though. On the first day of the WTC final, speaking on BBC's Test Match Special, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said the schedule would be out "anytime soon", but did not specify when exactly.
The delay in the schedule has also not allowed the ICC to put out ticketing details even as fans from overseas have grown desperate to make travel arrangements.

The Dutch opener took 30 off Holder in the Super over.
It’s now pretty much impossible for the Windies to make it to the WC

Australia begin their 2023 ODI World Cup campaign against hosts India in Chennai on October 8, before going on to play their next two games in Lucknow in the north of India: against South Africa on October 13 and a qualifier on October 16.
The World Cup schedule was finally released by the ICC and BCCI at an event in Mumbai on June 27, just 100 days before the start of the tournament on October 5. In comparison, the fixtures for the 2019 World Cup in England and the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand were released more than 12 months in advance.
The tournament will be played across ten venues in India, with the semi-finals in Mumbai and Kolkata on November 15 and 16, and the final in Ahmedabad on November 19. There are reserve days in place for the semis and final. The format will be the same as it was in 2019, with ten teams playing each other once in the league phase and the top four qualifying for the semi-finals.
India qualified for the event as hosts, while Afghanistan, Australia, England, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa made it by finishing in the top eight of the 2020-2023 ODI World Cup Super League. The remaining two qualifiers will be identified at the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, which is being played by Sri Lanka, West Indies, Ireland, Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Scotland, UAE, USA, and Zimbabwe.
After two successive fixtures in Lucknow, Australia's fourth league match is in the south once again, against Pakistan in Bengaluru on October 20. They then travel north again to play the other qualifier in Delhi on October 25, and then go further north to Dharamsala to play New Zealand on October 28.
Their last three league fixtures are in western India: against England in Ahmedabad on November 4, against Afghanistan in Mumbai on November 7, and against Bangladesh in Pune on November 12, which is the last day of the league stage.
Australia had made the semi-final of the 2019 ODI World Cup where they suffered a heavy defeat against the eventual champions England. They will gear up for the 2023 tournament in India with warm-up games between September 29 and October 3.

Dutch got through in an amazing game.Aerie wrote:I have only seen patches of this tournament. Was impressed with the crowds and passion for the Zimbabwe games. The culmination of 4 years work to make the World Cup comes down to Scotland vs Netherlands. Sri Lanka are already qualified.
It will come down to NRR if Netherlands win. This article explains it a bit better for those of us who might switch over in the lunch break:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/scen ... ot-1385760
"If Netherlands score 250, Scotland can afford to lose by up to 31 runs to stay ahead on run rate. A win by 32 or more runs for Netherlands will lift their NRR above Scotland's. If Scotland bat first and score 250, they will stay ahead on NRR if Netherlands chase it down in around 44.1 overs (depending on how they get their winning runs). If they chase it down any sooner, then Netherlands will trump Scotland's run rate and take the second qualification spot."
