Perhaps his racist slur years ago is still playing against him? Perhaps he still is?

Drawing a long bow there. He made a silly comment 14 years ago. I can't imagine Jones getting coaching gigs in Asia if he was a racist.

Jones did a batting session with the Redbacks batters once when Berry was coach. Told them they shouldn't wear their thigh pads on the outside of their shorts/trackies at training because they don't in games.

It is a massive pet hate watching juniors do it in games.

Did anyone catch Jamie Siddons on 5AA last night?
I couldnt believe what i was hearing

He was talking about coaching young kids and promoting his new business venture jamiesiddonscoaching. In games where they only get to face 12 balls and cant get out. His philosophy was for them to try and hit every ball for 4 or 6. He said the most important thing was for them to hit the ball, he can always teach them a defence later on.
Im led to believe ha had a very similar philosophy coaching the Redbacks. Probably why he finds himself out of a job now.

I wonder how wide spread this approach is? Is this type of instruction what is being fed down from CA and SACA?

It's just all f****** IMO.

As a 10 year old I had to ride my bmx to training twice a week for half an hour with my cricket bag hanging off me to be terrorised by 14 year olds in the nets only to be told that I didn't get a game on the Saturday most weeks, I got my spot later in the season as we played the top team and nobody wanted to open the batting against them, it was scary stuff but the door finally opened for me.

Now 14 year olds can only bat for 20 balls in the 2nd best comp in the metro area, and as they age brackets go down the rules just aren't cricket anymore.

It’s all about participation numbers and getting funds.

For every 5 “games” played, even this farce, it counts as a participation number.

Ive always found the kids that develop into the best cricketers later on have the best defence, they may not set scoring records as a junior as generally they dont have the strength. Maybe that is all changing with small boundaries. Is it all about instilling confidence in the kids?

Yep, a good defence is the foundation of success. If a kid has a decent defense and gets a chance to bat time and learn patience building an attack is the easy part.

Scoring runs has to be the #1 thing. That's the only reason you bat.

However it doesn't have to be smash every ball as a default setting. I would have thought you'd want kids to be developing:

1. Skill - how to play all the shots (drive, defend, cut, pull etc)
2. Decision making - which shot to play

siddons would know wouldnt he ?
he was super successful as redbacks coach
have had juniors from our club experience this at higher level
eg if you dont hit a boundary in the over you are out - this was a 50 over game mind you

Always amazes me that batsmen cannot work out that 3 singles an over is a 300 run day minimum.

Indian kids are allowed to make 1000

Aussie kids are allowed to make 20/30

Hmmm
Dave Warner will be missed!
