On the money Jim, a comprehensive 296 run win. No Hazlewood, no worries. Langer was quoted saying Siddle is a chance to replace Hazlewood as he is a like for like replacement. Please NO! Has to be Pattinson or Neser before Siddle surely.

Pattinson surely.
Pattinson

Siddle

<daylight>

Neser

The selectors have a reluctance to play Starc and Pattinson in the same team if Hazelwood isn't there. Starc was pretty economical in Perth, but Melbourne will be different. They might even consider dropping a batsman (probably Head) and playing 4 quicks.

Siddle officially comes into the Aussie squad for Melbourne. I appreciate the job he has done for Australia throughout his career but I don't understand why they've gone back to him. The selectors know what he brings and surely they know we have better fast bowlers that could of taken Hazlewood's spot instead of Siddle? Jhye Richardson? (Maybe he's still a bit underdone?), Jackson Bird? (Top of the Shield wickets), Riley Meredith? (Bit of an up and comer who played for Aus A against Pakistan).

I admire Siddle he been a good contributor over the journey, but sorry, he’s done. Look elsewhere.

Nathan Lyon now has 376 test wickets and is 19th on the list off all time test match wicket takers (6th of the spinners) going in front of Waqur Younis and is equal with Malcom Marshall.

Mitchell Starc (238) is 8 wickets away from Graham McKenzie who is 10th on the most test match wickets for Australia list.

Surely its all just a bit of a media beat up, Siddle only been added to the squad, Pattinson and Neser way in front of him as they were selected first especially given Neser and Siddle are pretty much the same

Dropping a batsman to include a defensive bowler in Siddle is absolute horseshit. Ian Chappell shits me to tears but one good point was 'do what the opposition would like least'. If you are a Kiwi who would you rather face, Pattinson or Siddle? In England the English commentators were surprised about Siddle's inclusion with Geoff Boycott summing it up nicely by saying (insert Yorkshire accent) 'Ah wouldn't mind facing im, even today'. Siddle was very good in his day and remains a whole hearted cricketer but I don't see the threat at test level. Pattinson got dropped for being a dickhead and would be chomping at the bit on his home deck to prove everyone wrong. That was the obvious selection. I think our current national team at times is guilty of overthinking things and it has cost us tests in the past.

REB

Mong Darsh would be punching walls in frustration at his ill fated decision a while back, would've been playing Boxing Day in front of Head or Wade if match fit.

On radio yesterday Justin Langer made a heavy indication that Pattinson will be the one to replace Hazlewood in the second test and NZ will make a change of their own, with Tom Blundell set to replace Jeet Raval. Raval has averaged 7.9 in his last 9 innings.

I’m not a big fan of the bloke but if you go like for like or look who’s next in line then he has to play.
The only other realistic option is Jackson Bird.

Obviously Kane thinks it will do a bit, pressure on the bowlers to take early wickets.

Just shows he has no faith in his brittle batting lineup
