All the Test players can play Shield then. Good for the competition.

Going on Wade’s Shield career that won’t happen.
His shield career??? He did get most runs in the comp recently.

No he didn't, he only got as high as second in 18/19 behind Marcus Harris.

Half that squad be sent to NZ for the 20/20’s so still be unavailable for few matches.

This is true, but clearly the Test squad playing Shield cricket is brilliant for the comp. I mean, some of the T20 squad are third string 'keepers for their state. ;)

Test squad: Tim Paine (c), Pat Cummins, Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Will Pucovski, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, David Warner.

T20 squad: Aaron Finch (c), Matthew Wade (vc), Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, D’Arcy Short, Marcus Stoinis, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa.

I'd omit Agar, Sams, K.Richardson, Turner and Tye to bring in Smith, Warner, Swepson, Cummins and Carey.

Warner
Finch
Philippe
Smith
Marsh
Maxwell
Stoinis
Cummins
Zampa
Behrendorff
J.Richardson

Finch and Stoinis to be very nervous and need to perform immediately with McDermott and Short ready to fill some shoes, our batting squad has plenty of versatility and I've listed 7.5 bowling options in the first XI.

I think it would be too unfair to axe Wade from the squad.

FWIW, I rate Swepson more than Zampa, I think Zampa has the luxury of playing on the MCG more often where it's harder to reach the boundary on the full, Zampa has the credits in the bank though and numbers don't lie.

Although I think Finch is very lucky to be there given his BBL form you can't knock his international record, IMO Wade should be no way near captaining a national side.

I've tried to list an XI but I just can't bring myself to do it knowing that Agar, Sams, Turner and Tye will be gifted a game, could still make a decent side with the rest of the squad.

*ahem*

Our long form cricketers are staying in Australia to play in our premier long form competition. This is exactly what page after page of this thread has been calling for, less bullshit cricket for the blokes who wear whites for 90 overs a day.

Cricket Australia has got this 100% correct.

In preparation for what? We won't be playing test cricket until October.

Just because you don't like or appreciate T20 doesn't mean we should be sending second rate squads out to represent our national side, I'm not much of a fan of T20 but I'd still prefer us to be winning at the highest level, especially against the shaggers as they'll be ripping into us if we they're winning.

Alternatively, couldn't be organize a test series against them as well, any travel to the northern hemisphere is off the cards for some time.

No but you'd have Warner, Smith and Cummins.

You'd make adjustments to the squad, the test squad was the first priority and was named for balance and security, there's a few that could filter back into the short format.

Representing Australia at Test match level.

Giving our best domestic long form cricketers exposure to Test match level bowling and batting.

Giving the state squads invaluable experience with the best of our Test players in and around them as they train and prepare to play long form cricket, offering advice etc.

Give a f*ck about whatever the f*ck the Aus v NZ T20 trophy is. Name it without using Google.

Should always have seperate squads IMO. Those who want to play tests don’t play T20’s.

The experience would be redundant by the time we play again.

The name is irrelevant, it is an international contest where the result bears rankings, we should be fielding out best team.

Absolutely not for every young Shield cricketer who has aspirations of playing Test match cricket for Australia.
