Yep, neither of the latter two played test cricket.

10621 runs @60.69 with 42 hundreds (the second most behind Boofs 45) in Shield cricket is an outstanding record but then to play 18 test matches, have 30 innings and average only 29.07 and not make a hundred shows he's (unfortunately for him) perfect for the in-between category.

As TDK pointed out in a question I raised, he'd fit right into that in-between category.

In the most recent Shield match against NSW Bird rushed past 300 Shield wickets, he now has 307 @21.33 at a SR of 44.9.
He is 15th overall in the most SS wickets list and has both a lower average and better strike rate than everyone above him on that list.

This discussion has got me thinking about mid 90 shield cricketers and whilst they never played test cricket nothing felt more assured than seeing Cox and Hills name at the top of Tasmania's batting order.

Yeah mate, they got right royally shafted , pretty sure DiVenuto was in the same category, very Siddons like.

Stuart Law played one test and scored 54*, Martin Love averaged 46 but only played 5 tests, mind you, this was at a time that Haydos couldn't break into the side despite scoring runs in his sleep.

Yeah Di Venuto never played test cricket either. I guess it was the quality around Hills and Cox both averaged over 40 but were never going to get a game ahead of the Slater and Taylor who were great test batsmen and then a bloke like Hayden who equally as good a shield player as them.

What were the iconic 90's opening batting partnerships.

Did something similar when it was announced that Mike had made a ton elsewhere for WA whilst he was fielding for Victoria at AO.

When Hookesy and Flipper settled in for the day it was going to be great viewing.

Used to jump on the next train as a 11-12 year old if they had put on a few before lunch, the oldies could keep an eye on me still on TV with the other 47 spectators. Used to stand near the VR gates to try and get a catch.

Having said that Hookesy is in the in between category too unfortunately

McKenzie Harvey just went into the concrete fence at the WACA, has gone off but looks like he is OK, hit it bloody hard
