Australia's premier domestic one-day cricket competition has a new naming rights sponsor with the announcement on Wednesday that Ford had jumped on board for the 2006-07 season.

The Ford Ranger One Day Cup will replace the ING Cup for the coming season.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland also confirmed that Pura would continue its eight-year association with the Pura Cup, which has been regarded as the toughest first-class domestic competition in world cricket.

"We are about to embark on one of the most hotly-anticipated periods in Australian cricket history and the Ford Ranger Cup and Pura Cup will provide the future stars of Australian cricket a chance shine in what will be a golden summer," Sutherland said at the season launch in Sydney.

The first round of Pura Cup matches begins on October 13 when Queensland takes on Tasmania at the Gabba, while the same two teams clash in the first round of the Ford Ranger One Day Cup two days earlier.

The women's domestic competition, the Commonwealth Bank WNCL, begins on November 11 with South Australia up against Western Australia.

I wonder if Ford will put a Falcon on the boundary so that if batsman hit it, they'll get $20,000?
